So this started happening to me. When I make a hard turn (left or right) I could feel a clunk and feel my car jolt a bit. It's very apparent that my passenger in the car would be like "WTF?" and I'd go . Clunking feels like it's coming from the front end.

It happens when the car's cold. I'd be backing up the car and turned completely to the left, and clunk..... clunk.

When it's raining it also happens when the car is warmed. Something to do with slipping?

Planning to bring it in to the dealer to have it checked. But does anyone have any experience with this issue?

Tires are skipping - Torsen.
Really? It feels like going over a tiny but sharp bump. Honestly it scares me when I'm half awake in the morning and backing my car out. How can tire slip/skip on flat surface though.

If the diff doesn't want to unlock while backing around a turn, you'd get tires "skipping", or "crow-hopping". But under these conditions, especially low throttle (assumed while in reverse), you shouldn't be getting that. Your description doesn't really sound like crow-hop though. While that would be a sort of bump & chirp, I don't think it would make a jolt or clunk. Best to make sure there's nothing out of order. Make sure that the rear end differentiates freely both to the left and to the right when the tires are off the ground. I'd suggest having it in gear when you check, so that the prop shaft can't turn.

Mine does it too. Definitely front end pop and skip to side. Mine has nothing to do with rear end....it's a loud audible pop and a jolting jump of the front end.

Because the tires compounds on the Performance Pack cars are not designed to be operated in low temperatures. Anything 40 degrees or below will cause the tires to skip/slip on the asphalt due to the change in the coefficient of friction, especially when you're applying power to back up or pull forward. I see you're in "SoCal", but it can still easily be 40 degrees or below in the mornings.

The other aspect of the car that can cause this concern is the limited slip rear differential; Performance Pack cars use a Torque Sensing (Torsen) differential that biases torque between sides based on the traction available to each tire. Once again, cooler temperatures affect the tires and can cause them to scuff across the pavement; combine that with the limited slip differential and you get the effect that you are describing.

There is a current thread in the general discussion about this issue.
