It's more or less the same....If you are going to leave your car out of your sight for any appreciable time, you are taking a chance no matter what you do. My plan is a second wing that can be replaced without giving up a kidney. If I have to drive the car and leave it out, then the wing is coming off. You know, I used to work with fiberglass. I cant imagine CF is that much more difficult to work with. If I can't find a wing, I certainly think it would be easy enough to shape a blank of foam, fiberglass, and then paint. I think a black wing might look better IMHO anyway. Maybe my lead for a second wing will pan out, if it doesn't, then plan C I guess.
People with CF wheels have the same problem. Leave it alone for long enough, you will eventually arrive to find your car is on blocks or sitting on the undercarriage and the wheels nowhere in sight.
I wonder if the full moon will bring more of the hecklers out tonight...........
Old thread I know but since I just got my CFTP, I too want a little something to slow down the dumber than the average bear wing thieve. So I went out to the shop to check on the three battery tenders I have running and to capture the last project I started but haven't addressed in a bit.
I'm acutely aware of how simple it is to hack a wing off the decklid in no time at all. That said, I wanted to track down some locking hardware that would at least make it a bit more challenging to the average, less invasive, thief. Don't ask me for fastener sizes as my own scenario will differ from everyone elses - just trying to share the general idea.
My shop desk.
I planned on using security hardware along the lines of the screws/bolts but I also wanted security style nuts too. I found some interesting ones (in stainless) at BelMetric.com that I think may do the trick, along with the requisite unique nut driver.
The price will surely scare most away. At around $4 per nut and over $100 for the driver, the price is rather silly. Make that stupid silly. Regardless, I bought it with my wing retention plan in mind.
The nuts are difficult to grasp with pliers, etc, but mesh perfectly with the tri-ball driver.
Together with a security Torx screw, it should take the average moron a few minutes to realize that their stolen socket set ain't gonna cut it. Hopefully he/she (tranny reference unintended) doesn't have superior upright severing tools at their fingertips...
Here are mine, Got them from a company that specializes in unique bolts, Good thing is each key is different for the set, I went one step further and got high wall washers for the nuts so you cant grab them.Old thread I know but since I just got my CFTP, I too want a little something to slow down the dumber than the average bear wing thieve.
How did your project turn out using the fasteners you took the pics of?
You have links to those? Here are mine, Got them from a company that specializes in unique bolts, Good thing is each key is different for the set, I went one step further and got high wall washers for the nuts so you cant grab them.
Dog bone mounts (yes I did them too) M6 x 20 or 25 (dont remember, they screwed up and sent me both sizes only one is long enough)Do you happen to recall the size of the bolts?

Wing to upright mount M6 x 30 Dremeled off to make even with the end nut.
No I did not, I called them and talk to them, I bought screws and the keys to go with them which was about $100-$120. I called them and told them what I was I doing and what I needed and they worked with me on it.Can you share the price of these? Did you have to order 500?
