Those were the fastest production trucks of their time period.... and really neat.

A late friend of mine bought one of the GMC Typhoons to accommodate his then new 1993 Cobra. That Typhoon was a wild SUV for its time, surprised MANY at a light.... or even catching up in a dig.... Both the Typhoon and Syclones were kind of like a Buick GN but in truck form... LOL!!
The one I thought was the coolest was the Marlboro version.

1982, could have bought a ā€˜70 Torino 428SCJ 4 speed. Bought a ā€˜75 Austin Mini instead. Not enough power to pull the skin off of rice pudding but go kart handling. When I bought my first new car out of university I bought a ā€˜87 Tempo 2 door. My dad loaned me the money for itā€¦should have spent a bit more and got an LX Mustang.
70 Torino SCJ was a 429 not a 428
My brother had one

1965 Mustang Shelby GT350; it was all original, down to patina were/tear. I saw it in TX while visiting around 1986 time period It was outside of a body shop along IIRC was either I10 or I35 with a big "for sale" sign in it. Stopped and looked at it, owner of the shop then showed me his totally restored GT350 stored in back garage. The GT350 out front was his friends who was going through a divorce... Ask on it at that time was only $16k - all original with no mods, with all correct factory parts. He took me for a blast up the highway and back - it sounded awesome and drove like a raw 60's Muscle Car should - loud and unforgiving.

To buy the same today, that $16k is now $6-figures or more based on history, if restored (or not), if traceable in Shelby registry, and if it retains all as built Ford parts. I have actual paper photos of it stored away, pretty sure maybe even the VIN....
WOW!!!!!

It wasn't not buying, but not trading for it. I was 15 (1976) when I started making payments on my 34 Ford 2 door sedan, basically a body & a frame. 3 years later I had finally finished it. I came walking out of Bargain City and this dude, early 50's maybe was looking at my car and asked me if I would be interested in a trade. I followed him west from Toledo for over an hour, heck I might have gone to Indiana, had to get gas, didn't know where I was at.
Stopped in the farm land at a place that had 5 small barns on it. He went to the end one, chickens came running out and there was shit all over. Pulled off this old heavy canvas tarp.
There was a blue with white stripes 1965, 289 AC Cobra that had the passenger rear caved in. He said that he had a issue with a guard rail. I didn't know anything about aluminum stuff and the wheel was all mangled. I said no thanks and made my way home. Wish that I could go back in time.

The guy actually had three for sale, all the same $$$. One was a RA III, one a RA IV, the third had a small block Chevy in it . The RA III car was by far in the best condition.

Should have bought this back in 2020 when I bought my Bullitt. Don't get me wrong, the Bullitt is a great car, and a SMART buy for someone just about to retire (entry cost, cost of ownership), and it STILL is........

As it turned out, I did not retire in 2022 as planned, and now will not retire till 2025. Had I bought this (talked down to $98K) I would have been able to go into retirement with it paid off which was my goal..... THIS is the car I dream about...... And it haunts my dreams, but I do really like the Bullitt, and the $48K I kept in my pocket........

1985 - I just started working at Ford Aerospace in Lake Forrest CA.
A coworker just out of the Airforce there had just bought a house with a new edition to the family and needed $$$.
He offered to anyone his 1966 GT350 white/blue stripes he was restoring. All Original numbers matching car for $3000 ! He was the second owner.

Ford had a leasing program and at the end of the lease they had a ton of cars and trucks for sell to their employees. I just closed the deal on a '84 Ranger, extra cab, V6, 5spd, 30 gallon tank, A/C for $2,200. And I was tapped out of $$$.
I couldn't get the money to get it. Anyway, anyhow.

This has haunted me since then. It wasn't till 2014 when I heard about the coming of the new GT350. I didn't get one of those.
But, I have a '16 GT350 in white. Minus the blue stripes.
I still dream of that one...

Going for 25k but I had just purchased a z4 coupe, so the timing was off. I would've pounced on it in a heartbeat otherwise.

Same car goes for 50k now.

This was in 2020... oh well, I got myself a brand new 5.0 later that year. ;)

lots of amazing cars on that list. Unfortunately I donā€™t think my list will get that long with the current inflation and a lot of cars getting discontinued and renamed as electrics itā€™s eliminating new cars that could be future legends.
Itā€™s sucks!! Itā€™s such a shame what they are doing to the auto industry and our hobbies for enthusiast all around the world! We shouldnā€™t let it just happen!!
