I have a very slow leak in a r/f wheel and discovered it’s leaking in the barrel of the rim. Brought it to my dealer today and Ford already denied coverage due to chipped/cracked inner wheel surface. It does have a minor blemish in the ceramic coating (I’m sure from a piece of gravel getting between the barrel and caliper), but nothing that should cause the wheel to leak! I was determined to run the carbon fiber wheels, now my confidence is shaken.

The dealer does mention the rest of the wheel is spotless. They should be since the car only has 600 miles on it.

Can anyone recommend the best point of contact to appeal this decision?

Thank you in advance for any help or advice given!

You will never win that one. Get it repaired. The slow leak is not a big deal. Epoxy can be placed and vacuumed through where the leak is to regain integrity. You can do this yourself or send it off to spyder composites.

I would fix it myself.

Follow up..... Do a soapy water test to determine the exact air loss. Go from there. Heck, for all you know you could have a lose tpms sensor or a Schrader valve.

First things first.......

this is the best advice you'll get OP. If it leaks from where you think, have the tire dismounted and epoxy vac the hole yourself. It should be a quick job.

If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself check your local listings for composite shops. I’m sure you’ll find someone within your area that has the know-how on vacuum forming and resin.

This was what I was thinking. Pinpoint the leak first. Good luck OP, sorry for the luck but let us know what you find!

This is an easy fix.

Going after ford for road debris damage? Not so easy.

OP, if you are hell bent on going after Ford for this, then start with Ford customer care. I know from experience that this will not be covered, unless you bought the wheel warranty, but I think they stopped offering that right after I got mine.

Not yet. Dealer had me call and submit a financial assistance claim. I own many Fords and a Lincoln so that is supposed to help so we'll, see?

Quote to have Spyder Composites fix it is $600-$800.
