The seller is saying it is a Cobra Jet.... Is that something that can be confirmed?
The exhaust ports seem to be too small for a CJ, and a D1VE block won't have 4-bolt mains IIRC. Need better pics and numbers off the cylinder heads. Generally the 429 CJs didn't have blue painted valve covers though. If I had to guess it's probably a garden variety 429 or 460.

I have a 460 on an engine stand at home in my shop, I'll try to remember to take a peek at the block casting number.

Attached is a pic of mine:

This is a 2-bolt main block, and if memory serves it came out of a Lincoln. D1VE-6015-AA.

The 385 series BBF was my favorite engine to build when I did a lot of that. They make stupid power with aftermarket heads and typical hot rod parts.

Good that you're checking. It's been common through the years for people to call anything thats 420-something, a Cobra Jet.

Here's another good reference source for the classic sought after Mustang engine identifications and/or questions. Many engine blocks and transmissions being found today are also being sought by those trying to restore such Mustangs as the infamous classic B429, B302, Mach 1s, Cobra Jets, etc.

Granted the site name is deceiving now - but it's more than just B302 related.
http://www.boss302.com/smf/index.php

I'm a member over there too.

I had a lead on a real B429 out in CA that was in need of a resto. It was missing its original engine. I was being told a story about it and decided to deep dive research it before making any rash decisions. Low and behold through much research and making connections, I was able to locate the block on that above web site... you never know what you will find. The deal with the B429 never panned out, but I still have many pics of what was sent to me - confirming it is in fact the real deal... I don't know what ever happened with the car and the seller never knew I came across the original block either.

Another excellent reference site too which I've hit up every now and then:
https://www.428cobrajet.org/id-block

And there is this Cobra Jet engine resto tech detail - the absolute best probably on the web:
https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/1802-hard-core-resto-tech-detailing-a-428-cobra-jet-engine/

If you're looking for info on the Ford FE engines (332-428):
https://www.fordfe.com/

Lots of Ford engine casting IDs:
http://www.erareplicas.com/427man/engine/partnums.htm

http://www.fordification.com/tech/castingnumbers-FEblock.htm

Another good site for 429 identifications:
http://429mustangcougarinfo.50megs.com/decoding.htm

429-460 site:
https://www.429-460.com/
