Hello! I'm looking at swapping the CAI, but i was curious if I should get the Gen 3 CAI on my Gen 2. Would that be better then shelling hundreds on a pretty looking cai. Will this require a tune? Thanks

You will need a tune.

MAF will be off and car will run lean

I don't know if it is worth any power or not. I will test this soon. Same car same day same tune, only difference will be the MAF curve.

OEM 18 will keep the iats down and increase power better than an open HAI. Definitely tune for it. Add 18 manifold while your at it for even more power.

I don't notice any difference in IAT's between the 18 CAI and the 17.

Friday, I will be able to get to a test and tune. Would have today but my granddaughter wanted to see the monster trucks. She is 7 and I didn't feel comfortable leaving her alone in the stands.

If you're changing your intake, it's generally going to need tuning. Though the gen 3 intake is better, it's not likely the improvement you're looking for. If you want to feel a difference in power and "wake the car up", you need aftermarket tuning. Aftermarket tuning is complimented by things like larger CAI's because the the tuner can take advantage of the extra air flow.

Ultimately you'll have to spend a tad more but it's more than worth it in the end as these cars are extremely capable in the hands of a competent tuner. Call us up at Lethal Performance.

I was able to hit the test and tune. What a nightmare. It seems everyone and their brother decided to test tonight. Easily 500 cars. looked like a national event points meet.

I was only able to get 2 hits, I wanted to make 6, which would be normally EASY. There were several back to back oil downs. Then they let the pro mods do singles. Then one of them hit a deer in the shutdown area. I do admire the track personnel, they got it cleaned up fairly fast. The driver was not hurt. Can't say that for his car.

Anyway I only got 2 hits. First stock CAI stock tune

13.06, 111.97, 2.1753, 60ft

2018 cai stock 2017 tune, I only changed the maf curve so it is apples to apples.

13.09, 111.36, 2.1672, 60ft

I was a bit disappointed in the MPH and ET but when I checked the scans the car was in traction control spark source, for most of the runs.

I ran it in sport mode, I'm sure the car is better at pedaling than me. Temps were in the 60's

I know only 1 hit per test is not absolute, but it looks like the 17 likes the 17 tube size the best.
