FYI & FWIW...... I have the factory PP2 wheels, the FP matte black PP2 wannabe ones and I have the FP Birds nest Mach I wheels and they're all decent wheels for certain. They're all freaking heavy. I run stagger for street only all 3 sets with 305-19 fronts and 315-19 rears and They're all 10 1/2 front & 11 rear widths. I like all of these shoes. All Michelin PS4.
I have Optimum Performance hubs with GT4 long studs and OP hubs rear with GT350R studs (tad shorter studs) having taken off the Sport Cup 2s from the factory PP2 rims 305-30 x 19 square on Bronze Apex rims with the necessary spacers as Apex suggests and track this car with that setup. No problem. I would personally not track this particular car with anything larger, taller, wider. Spacers are a non event for me. It's safe. It works.
If anything I'd put 18 inch wheels like the earlier and even present race setups for S550. The Cup2 is a good all around track tire don't run them cold and don't blister or overheat them. When they're gone I'll likely go to a Hoosier slick. I do have the Vorshlag camber plates to get the cambers I want and adjustable rear UCA with Cortex toe links but the rear dials for camber and toe are quick and reasonably track simple with these wheels and tires. Not too big in size and smaller is ok because it's not stance or looks that are paramount. Its performance overall and ease of tweeking and clearances needed in the turns whether your Magnerides or a good coilover you're going to experience body roll even with what you think are good settings on the bars.
But I found the discussions on the FP wheels interesting and they're easy to confuse because of all the width variations. They're all fairly decent wheels just heavy. Apex wheels are light and immediately
they're noticeably responsive especially in steering inputs and responses in the corners. I'm so spoiled with running square 19 inch light wheels that I don't think I'll ever track this car with the 3 other sets of shoes! Leaving those for Sunday driving lol.
I think it's appropriate to consider a light setup for serious HPDE type track days and of course track pads etc. because these PP2 cars are all ready dialed in by Ford so you're just adding a little espresso to this glorious elixir of Mustang fun.
