Hey guys,

I've reading about all those oil consumption issues in GT350/(R). I thought Ford fixed it on 2019-2020 GT350 models but I read another thing in this forum from other users. Anyone knows?

If I want to buy a Shelby GT350, what would be your advice, looking for an used (year) or new, and what do I need to be aware?

What I don't like of the 2020 GT500 is the gear selector dial, I prefer old style or manual transmission.

Where can I find the money factor and residual value for a lease on a 2020 GT350 and which would be a good monthly payment after paid $5000 in down-payment? If anyone want to share their story or numbers, I appreciate it.

Just a new guy that would love to become a member of this Shelby family.
Regards

I bought a new 2019 in mid-April. I drove it 1400 miles from the dealer to my home state with zero issues. I had the oil changed at a local ford Dealer and it has 2,600 miles on it today. I've been using it almost daily for commuting and pleasure. It has used zero oil. I checked it yesterday, it is still showing no oil consumption. My selling dealer was animate that it should not use a drop of oil, they felt that was a 2018 and earlier issue. I do hit the 8250 mark occasionally, not daily or anything like that.

I would not be put off by this issue. The car has 5 years and 60,000 miles on engine and drive train. My plan is to own the car and drive those 60,000 miles enjoying every one of them. 2019 and 2020 are the exact same car, all the changes were made in 2019 for the regular GT350, "R" changes happened in 2020.

I would not be put off by this issue, I looked at GT350's for more than a year before pulling the trigger. For break time today, I walked out to the picnic tables by the parking lot and spent fifteen minutes admiring my car, smiled and went back to work. My only major gripes are similar to most guys here, very nice but very thin paint that chips when sneezed upon and the occasional tram lining problem on rutty roads.

My personal opinion on break-in is that no max RPM pulls until after a full 1,000 mile break-in and the first oil change are a must. No max RPM driving after 1,000 miles unless the car is at normal operating temps, 180 degrees Fahrenheit oil temps and warmed up. This is an exotic engine design and a failure is not unheard of as you noticed. That being said, the failure rate is still extremely low. I have my personal opinion of why these failures happen, I think some of them are from pushing to hard to early in the engines life, some were clearly failures of oil pressure sensors or oil filter seals on early cars, some are bearing issues that could be related to running a cold engine to hard. The broken valves could be those hollow sodium valves improperly manufactured. The causes are varied with none really standing out as a general design or quality problem with this engine.

Oil consumption seems to be hit or miss. Just break it in correctly and if you have to top it off once in a while it’s not a big deal. You should be checking the oil regularly irregardless. The 20R got the GT500 steering setup. I’ve never heard of a Shelby lease and if you could get one it would probably be exotic car money. I don’t think you can lease anything that has ford performance on it.

Have my '19 since May 1, 2019. First oil change was done @ 2K miles in March of 2020. No measurable oil burned. At 1st oil change I installed FP oil/air separator. I now have 2500 miles. No measurable oil burned. No oil in the FP oil separator.

Its a high performance hand built engine. There will be some level of failure expected with any engine. From what I have seen Ford has consistently replaced or repaired engines with high oil consumption. Unless of course the engine has been tuned or modified.

You must not drive very hard ever to not have anything in your oil separator after that many miles. Mine has something in it after a couple hundred miles of fun driving. And I just pour that nice clean oil in my JLT back in the motor.

The19’s don’t seem to have oil consumption issues, but some small amount, have dropped valves.

I’ll add that I’m at 1700 miles on my 19 R. One oil change at 1k with a proper break in. No oil consumption.
The dropped valves seem to happen at low miles so I’m willing to bet if you make it to 1k, most cars should be in the clear.

I went to a Ford dealer this weekend and the manager gave me the option to lease a 2020 GT350, but seriously, financing is better than lease option.
I've been reading out there and there are some guys saying that engine issues in GT350 still are there, minors but there.
I'm considering between a Hellcat Redeye and a GT350R.
Which car do you think I will enjoy the most, which is more reliable and which is the best option right now.

I'd appreciate your help.

Also: The GT350R hasn't AC? Is that true?
Not busting your balls here but if you have to ask if the R doesn’t have AC you may wanna do some research.

The two cars you are comparing are night and day. One is a straight line brute, while the other is a roadcourse dream. The dynamics are so different between the two that you are really gonna have to sit down and calculate what best fits your desires cause these two cars are past your needs for basic transportation.

Yes, the GT350R has AC. I asked because I had read about it hadn't AC. Maybe I misunderstood.
