Hey All,

I am a prospective first-time mustang buyer and am looking to buy a GT. I can't decide if I should get a 2016/17 GT Premium or just wait until next year when I am sure the prices on the 2018s will drop? It would be great to get some perspective from the community on this. Aside from some cosmetic differences are there any other reasons to hold off for a 2018?

Price mainly. The 16-17's are a huge bang for your buck when it comes to price vs performance. The 2018 on the other hand does perform, especially with the 10-speed. If you can manage a good deal on an 18, I'd go with that. Really, either way you go isn't wrong. Just grab something you can afford and enjoy.

I would go for a 2016-17 Premium PP.

I got a '16 PP with a catback, springs, tint, and Nitto's already on it. 9K miles. It was 27.5K out the door.

The '18 PP would've been 41K out the door. To me, it was an easy choice because I'm a MT guy, and I couldn't do better than that deal. I also like the looks of the 15-17 better.

Me too. The 15-17 cars look better. Not a fan of what they did with the front fascia and the god awful rear wing.

It really depends on how you want the car equipped. If you want a GT premium with a manual transmission, the 2016/2017 would be great. However, if you want an automatic or if you like the digital dash or active exhaust, you would like the 2018 more.

We all have our priorities. My favorite features are the 10 speed, digital dash and active exhaust. Others may not care about those things.

Dude, 2018s are mostly gone, and 2019s are rolling into dealerships. Have been for months.

I'd expect there's almost 0 2017s left, and just a few 2018s.

Wait.....you're talking about used cars, right?

I agree with this. If you want the auto, the A10 in the 2018 is awesome.

I need to go drive one with the A10. I keep hearing great things about it. I am leaning towards a 2018 seeing as they are already in the mid to low 30s now. 6 months from now they will probably be in the high to mid 20s. As mentioned before I do really like the digital dash and active exhaust. I love this front bumper upgrade too - http://www.777performance.com/product/gt777-fascia-kit-pre-painted/

Some things to consider...

The 2015 is a 50th anniversary year and will be more desirable than 2016/17 as time goes on. There is a 50th anniversary package for 2015 as well.

2015 has the sync 2 which has customizable display wallpaper, like a computer.

2015 will be cheaper since it is the oldest S550 but will have less warranty available unless there is an extended warranty.

The ZF sourced auto trans in the 2015-17 is bullet proof. I didn't care for the new A10.

There are reports of some problems with the new 5.0, visit the issues and repairs section and read up on the current problems.

That is not correct. The 15-17's had the 6R80 auto trans which was co-developed between Ford and GM, there for it is a ford trans.
Also the new A10 in the 18+ is the 10R80 which was another joint venture between Ford and GM

The 6f50 and 6f55 transmissions are for front drive vehicles and the product of a jount venture between Ford and GM. The 6R80 is for rear drive and not part of the joint venture. It is based on a ZF unit.

The 10R80 is a product of joint venture with GM but Ford did the engineering. It is used in the F150 and will soon be in every rear drive vehicle from both Ford and GM.
