Is this a thing on the 5.0?

I've owned a few cars that after 'some' miles feel faster than day one. It seems like a thing; the entire powertrain gets a few thousand miles, gets I dunno, "looser" maybe and frees up some sleeping torque that your rump-dyno feels. Any truth to this on our cars?

I want to say I notice the same thing, but it could just be that we feel more comfortable with it.

Most long term magazine test. Indicate a tenth or two increase after some miles are ticked on the odometer.

My 5.0 was noticeably faster after seeing 10K on odometer

Almost every engine feels better after breaking in. Add to that the tranny and rear end breaking in and it really can be noticeable.

In the snowmobile world most new sleds actually come with a detuned break in program for the first 100 miles or so. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case in the auto world as well.

Yup.....

Every long term test I've ever read shows the cars getting slower.

Your butt-dyno is lying to you, you're just getting more comfortable and knowledgeable at driving your car faster. But unless you're doing power increasing mods, it's actually getting slower.

Explain why it would get slower?

I've been told by many Professional Drag racers that an engine is never stronger than when it is at the end of it's life about to go boom

Tires, Shocks, Transmission are a completely different story though.

You can't compare race engines to production engines, since race
engine have to be torn down after a few passes

They still work on the same premise. So, yes you can.

Granted if the production engine has been maintained as far as oil, plugs, filters, carbon cleaned out of the intake and injectors cleaned regularly...

As long as the compression is still good, a "not new" engine will make more power..

Exactly right. Same premise.

Mu ducati just hit 9000 miles and it feels like the engine is more free somehow.
