Bullitt long tube header installation

Kooks headers appear to be high quality, however;:the one thing I dislike about them is the two bolt ball in socket collector flange. Those tend to bend when tightening them down. I think a four bolt collector flange like Corsa and Dynatech utilizes would make the Kooks much better.

Update: I received the replacement header set from Ultimate Headers yesterday afternoon. I worked all through the night and I to the early morning to get them installed. I would say that this revised set is nearly perfect, however; there was one issue. The mid-pipe hit the passenger side floorboard. Thankfully, my Steeda adjustable motor mounts allowed me to lower the motor 1/2” to gain the necessary clearance. I still have to install the factory active exhaust and plug up the o2 sensors, after which I should be ready to press the start button. Here are several pics. It’s hard to take perfect pics when the car is only 20” off of the ground, but hopefully they show enough detail (especially clearance around the steering shaft and passenger side AC lines and body of the car).

Yes, they’re definitely a PITA to install, but the end result will make it all worth it. I got to do mine twice in 30 days, so I had double the fun.

LOL, thanks! I don’t think that I would want to do this job again anytime soon. It really does take a lot out of you. Half the battle of installing LT‘s is getting a set that fits properly. Nothing is more aggravating than when fitment becomes an issue; especially while having to work off of jack stands with just 20” of clearance. I am praying that the factory exhaust bolts up perfectly. I measured carefully and cut everything cleanly, but of course there always seems to be some kind of monster standing by in the dark, ready to rear it’s ugly head.

Will extra heat be a problem in the long run up front? Awfully close to starter, steering shaft, and other vulnerable wiring and bushings, no? But you'd have to wrap them before installation, I guess.

I don’t anticipate a problem with heat. There is actually plenty of clearance between the steering shaft, frame and headers, but if It does become an issue, I’ll look into some sort of starter heat shield or wrap.

Thanks Illinois Bullitt! I have to pick up a couple of ratchet wrenches this morning, so that I can tighten the engine bracket to motor mount bolts on each side of the car and then I‘ll be ready to start it. I’ll definitely grab some sound clips of it.

First startup and revving videos; post installation. The car is still on jack stands for now. Got a few minor details to tighten up and then I’ll let it down and start data logging, so I can finish up working with Lund on the tunes.

Damn; that's freaking LOUD. And as expected, a lot raspier, and high-pitched. But sounds powerful; you can hear each freaking piston exploding. Ha ha. I still haven't heard anything better than stock: refined, deep, powerful, the perfect tone, and at the perfect volume with one of the stock AE settings.

Yes, it’s definitely going to be very loud. That‘s why I made sure to keep the active exhaust feature intact in case it’s needed. I grew up around hot rods and wouldn’t have it any other way. Loud cars are not for everyone though and I get that. Some like a more subtle tone, some in the middle of the road and others, way off the chart. Can you guess where I fall within that spectrum? LOL

Like I said before - I’ve always installed LT’s on my V8’s; always get compliments on my 94 Cobra and how it sounds.
