Hello guys,

My new 350R was produced on 6/2/20 (i.e. soon after the factory reopened) and I picked it up last week with only 6 miles on it.

1) From the time I first started it up until now (about 190 miles on it), it has been making a really annoying metallic clinking/ringing noise from the passenger side of the car. Several of my friends have noticed it both sitting in the car and standing outside of it. The noise begins at about 1500rpm and then ends a little before 2000rpm, hot or cold. I found some threads about the orange exhaust dampers being loose but mine seem tight and are mounted differently than the ones others have pictured. I poked around at the exhaust heat shield and bent it slightly away from the chassis and also pulled the passenger side front brake dust shield a fraction of an inch away. I could not really find anything loose.

2) Also I am now noticing that when I turn the engine off, it makes a metallic sort of clunk. Almost like an old car 'dieseling' for a split second.

I have taken a video of both noises but it seems to be too big to post here. I will try to figure something out. Here are pictures of my orange exhaust dampers. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

UPDATE July 4th 2020: loose to the touch passenger side O2 sensor. Tightened it up and problem #1 seems fixed.

Thank you!

Why don't you schedule visit to your dealer? IMO they're first and best source for your car.

I’m sorry, you waited a long time for the car I’m sure. I can definitely hear it in the posted video. Concur that needs to get in the service bay and have a tech trained on the Shelby take a look. Stumps me in the short time you hear it in the video. My first thought was heat shield given the “tinny” sound.

Ya get that checked out ASAP sounds like something’s loose, check all the drive belt stuff out in front and the starter under the car, mine was making the tin noise, from the tranny plate was missing a bolt added bolt and noise is gone

Thats exhaust shield. Make sure all clamps are tight.

Definitely not normal sound. I also think it may be an exhaust shield or something similar. I don’t think it’s coming from the motor which is great news for you.

First time I got under my car to do the oil change st 500 miles I saw there was a rubber cap on my starter that was hanging loose. See picture attached.

Didn’t make any noise but it’s a sign that some of these cars come out of the factory without a thorough check.

Can anyone else hear the clunk noise at about 16 seconds when I shut the car off? It's the 2nd to the last noise you hear in the clip - opening the door is the last noise. It happens when I turn the car off. Do your cars make that noise?

That cap was dangling on my car, too! Popped it back on yesterday.

It's probably the throttle body.

Interesting. Is the 350 throttle body known to make a clunk upon shut down? My Boss 302 does not (nor did my other B302) but I know the 350 has a bigger TB.

my guess would focus on the exhaust valves. The metallic buzz seems to be caused when the engine rpms are in the same rev band. Perhaps the valve shutters are loose? And when you shut down the engine, they reset to closed, which you would hear, The sound your car makes could again, be due to loose valves closing?

Voodoo Velocity - I will check those valves, good idea. I had a Focus RS with an exhaust valve and those things were notorious for squeaking when activating so I am aware of the issues those valves can cause.

Shelby Nick - thank you for that. If you look at the pictures I posted above, my exhaust dampers seem to be mounted differently and don't use the central bolt/stud like prior years. There is no way for the new ones to be tightened.

I'm hoping to get some friends over this weekend to see what we can find before I have to take it to dealership.
