I have a 21 gt premium 6spd. I plan on getting comp. s2 cams, cnc ported stock intake, long tube headers, fic 1000's not sure about the rest of the fuel system yet,and a Procharger D1x on e85. I have an 2004 srt4 built to handle 900+ on e85 it's around 750 whp. with a Borgwarner s363sxe. Ive built 12 2.4 engines varying between 500 to 700+ whp. Including my own. Back in the day 04-06 it was a big deal to run billet oil pump gears but since the tuning options got much better diablosport,SCT and hptuners which I have. You don't hear about that much more on that platform. I'm running a stock mopar oil pump and zero issues for years. On the coyote platform it seems almost like a knee jerk reaction to put oil pump gears in them. 800whp is it absolutely necessary?

They may break, they may not. You will get varying opinions and I assume you will do what the masses say which is why you created this post. The masses here are very conservative and will say they are not needed.

from what i understand the gen 3 they put a better harmonic balancer on which helped to alleviate that issue for the most part, but still have seen cases of them breaking and such so i guess its kinda 50/50 lol

and if you read recent posts, as of just less than 2 days ago, others have said that “better harmonic balancer” was changed back to the other style… purportedly…

EDIT:
Here’s some threads that contain factual OPG info, take time to read them, because not all OPGs are the same and yes there have been reported failures with some aftermarket OPG’s too. I think you should take the time to really read up in this subject matter, only because of your future mods. Just because there is an aftermarket OPG, doesn’t mean it’s better.

If you’re going to attemp OPG/timing yourself, or get a shop to do it, here’s important notes so check the below threads before jumping in without knowledge:

If your changing the camshafts, the timing chains have to come off. At that point, why would you not throw a set of oil pump gears in while it's apart?

That being said, I wouldn't change the cams if you're only shooting for 800rwhp.

800 is a starting point until I get a built shortblock but that is down the road a ways. It was mentioned if I'm doing cams might as well throw oil pump gears in and that is a good point.

Its cheap insurance even if you have to pay someone else to do it and you won't say to yourself, "Is today the day" every time you flog it. Sort of the same thing as building a boosted V8, but cutting corners on the fuel system. It'll work until it doesn't. Lot's of people will tell you that it isn't necessary and they have xxx HP and rev to 8k all day long on the stock gears.

Just like when target shooting you will sometimes get a flyer.

Most times when the gears break it is due to a 2 step or riding the rev limiter through corners.
