I am the proud owner of a 13' SBY Boss 302 with just under 5k miles and in pristine condition. I love the new Mach 1 but having a hard time letting go of the Boss to fund a Mach 1. As I get older (67) I'm drawn to a performance car I can get with an automatic trans. Any thoughts out there? Thank you

Test drive a Mach and you’ll have an easier time letting go of the Boss.

The only reason I went with the Mach 1 was the Tremec. Most say the auto is a gem. I am a little younger (15 yrs) but I'd keep the Boss

I had the same dilemma, Drive the Mach with automatic it is very very impressive.
I sold my 2012 Boss and my 2014 GT.
Love the Mach

Based on your only putting 5K miles in 10 years, bragging about it being in "pristine condition", you're a collector and not a driver.

Maybe to get you actually driving more, a 10SPD auto Mach 1 is the right choice. A car you can actually enjoy driving somewhere and sometime. I can't imagine having an awesome car, and not enjoying driving it every day. That's just having a toy, and not playing with it so it's in good condition for the next owner.

You're 67, when are you going to enjoy driving your Mustang(s)??? Join a touring club? Visit some awesome destinations? Enjoy some great drives?

I see your point King Kona. I'm not a collector by any means and never purchased the car to make a profit. The only mustang I profited from was my 66FB I owned for years
I'm not concerned with, nor did I mention, profiteering. Not the point when the word "collector" was used. I just meant it sits barely driven.

The point is to enjoy driving your car, rather than just letting it sit in your garage looking pretty for the next owner.

But if you enjoy sitting in a chair, drinking some beers and just looking at your car, and washing/cleaning/waxing/polishing it. If that's what makes you happy, then ignore my thoughts on your Mustang ownership.

I havent driven a Boss 302, but my last 2 fun cars were a 2001 WS6 Trans Am and a 2000 hardtop Corvette. Both manual. Both maybe 420 crank hp. My M1 auto feels faster through gears 3-6 and I havent really laid on it yet as I only have 325 miles on it. I got the auto to make road trips to places I havent been before a little less nerve racking. My Vette especially was super low with an aftermarket clutch and it was very fun to drive hard. Not very fun to putt around in stop and go traffic or up and down urban hills and one way streets. I will do about 5000 miles per year on the M1 and after some chassis upgrades, plus headers and a tune, hopefully be around 100 hp more than my other cars. Should be perfect for me for a long time.

I don’t have a direct comparison of the 2 but in general I believe the S550 platform is a big upgrade over the S197 platform (interior, IRS, 10 speed auto, etc.). There are plenty of folks who prefer the S197 and the Boss is a special car, so I can see how it’s a tough choice. If you haven’t seen yet, Zach at Granger just posted this. If you’re contemplating custom ordering a 2023 Mach, you don’t have much time to think about it unfortunately

I appreciate that Mark. I'm actually considering a well taken care of 2021. If I can find one for a reasonable price I'll keep the Boss for a while. Thank you

The s550 will be faster in every aspect and much nicer in terms of interior. That being said the 2013 s197 boss 302 is a much better looking car in my opinion and is more of a muscle car while the s550 is more sports car.

I'd personally keep the Boss in that scenario unless you absolutely, positively have to have that automatic.
