When I ordered my Bilstein shocks I noticed that no new bump stops or dust covers came in the package. I took a look at inexpensive Ford parts dealers, and the total cost for OEM stops and covers was $82 plus roughly $14 for shipping. $96? Not going to happen.

As I had a E92 BMW in the past, I recalled the bump stop kit was “about” the right size to fit my Mustang’s new Bilsteins. So I went on a whim and ordered two E92 BMW M3 bump-stop kits for a total of $41.75 shipped to my door.

I got mine here:

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-febi-parts/rear-bump-stop-with-tube-priced-each/33536767335~feb/

The $41.75 gamble paid off; these bump stop kits fit perfectly. The stops needed zero modification. They slide on the shock with just enough resistance to know the fit was right. The dust cover has plenty of clearance over the shock casing, and not too much either.

The bump stop height is just over 2.75 inches, with about .75 inches of it being non-active—you can compress this with nearly no effort as this section is completely hallow and only holds the dust cover on. With 2 inches of active bump stop, this makes for a perfect, cheap, and functional unit for my lowered S550. And yes, if you absolutely wanted to trim these, you can trim the non-active .75 inches off and still retain the dust cover.

Anyway, photos are worth a thousand words, so here you have it:

I’ll be bolting these up next weekend and will report how the stout Bilsteins handle....hopefully as good as they look!

Man, those Bilsteins are pretty. The little bit about the Nurburgring Norschleife gives me the tingles. Let us know how they do!

Great info, I just ordered a set of B6's and got your bump stops from Eeuroparts for $48.
I'm installing them on Steeda billet rear mounts, which I already had. Rod at Steeda hooked me up with the correct mounting hardware.
Looking forward to the improved ride!

I called Steeda, they supplied me with the correct sleeve, bushing and nut for the Bilstien.
It is not on their website, you have to call for the parts.
This is only because I currently have the factory shock hardware.
If you are buying the mount from them, they can supply you with the proper mounting for your application.
Was about $45

The email from Rod at Steeda:

On topic, is it Bil-steen or Bil-stine?

I’m excited to get them on too, but next weekend is the install time. I’m waiting on the shock mounts...should be here Tuesday . On the plus side, I didn’t get a new car today so the B6 install is a “go.”

 Yes Sir!

I just got my OEM mounts, so it’s a matter of time here too. Fyi, I did cut off the very bottom portion of the M3 bump stops, giving a total length of just over two inches. Fits like a glove!

Standby for pics of the uninstalled final product...I put the shock mounts on upside-down at first (brain fart) and will now see how the bump stops fit in the female portion of the OEM shock mount.

Edit: I had to shave 3mm of diameter off of the top portion of the M3 bump stop to get it to couple with the OEM shock mount. An easy 5 minute process with an exacto — you or anyone else with aftermarket mounts shouldn’t have to take this extra step. Here’s the final product:

All in all, well worth the 3mm shave job to save over $50. Looking forward to hear thoughts on your install,

-Mike
