BMS reset - no tools required

After replacing my battery (with an AGM), I've been trying to avoid paying the dealer for a BMS reset, and I don't have Forscan or even a computer. I found the following on an F150 forum. Tried it on my '20 GT and it seems to work.

Procedure must be carried out within 10 seconds:

1. Switch ignition on (engine off)
2. Pull and release high beam 5 times.
3. Press and release brake pedal 3 times.
4. If successful the battery light will flash 3 times within the next 15 seconds
5. BMS reset completed.

I'm not any kind of expert, but my battery icon flashed three times after performing these steps, so the procedure appears to work. YMMV

UPDATE: 3/3/2022
Confirmed with Forscan. This procedure resets the "days in service" to 0.

I don't know if that question was for me or one of the others who got new batteries, but here's my story. I wanted AGM for sure. First choice would have been X2Power from Batteries+. I've used them for years in my Jeep and they have a 5 year replacement warranty, but they're not available in the 96R. Second choice was Odyssey, but I had trouble finding one. Ended up with DieHard from Advance Auto, and so far so good. Any time it's in my garage, it's hooked up to one of my maintainers.

Thanks for this. I just replaced my OEM battery (01/2018) with an Odyssey, followed the procedure, and got the 3 flashes of the battery light. I'm still going to leave it locked up so it can be in deep sleep for 8 hours tonight, but figured this was a good process too.

I do have the Forscan tool but I'm really new to it... Is there a way to check the BCM status later to see that it successfully reset? would it just pull it in logs I could read?

Great info, as I see a battery replacement in the not too distant future. I was thinking AGM too but I read that they can cause issues with the charging circuit of the car. I also read that the typical battery charger (charger, not tender) can mess them up as well.

Owning a 2020 also, it is a sure bet when needed, C&P the info to a doc, and stored.

For what it's worth I needed to replace my battery while on vacation. I took out the stock flooded acid and replaced it with an odyssey AGM, I did not have forscan with me. When I got home, about a week later I hooked up and discovered the car had learned it had an AGM, it's cranking amps and reserve capacity.

So it appears the cars self learn.

When you switched your battery, which one did you go with? Did you get a light or fault code or are you doing the reset to be safe. Thank you for your help
