Going to run a nonported 2018 intake manifold on a 16 GT manual and want to keep IMRC . Who's best tuner for this?
Was considering
a SCT X4 with custom tune for $479 from Steeda. Anybody have any experience with it?
But my gut says a custom tune would be better.
Not racing just a fun cruiser. Mods are axlebacks and C&L CAI. Trying to maintain low end torque as well as the added top from the 18 mani

This was my original intention, but every tuner told me to just lock the IMRCs out. They're just not worth the trouble, and in my experience, you do NOT lose torque.

I love Steeda, but I wouldn't trust them to tune my car. I used Palm Beach Dyno, and they were very easy to work with. I had some slight surging with the first tune they sent, so we datalogged a couple times, and they were able to get it right very quickly. Turn around for me was about an hour.

I did a VMP tune and kept the IMRCs they haven't been a problem at all. You may still loose a little torque from the intake anyway, but the top end is strong like bull.

Keeping the IMRC is always an option but like what was previously said, its typically better to always delete them. They are more of a headache than its worth. Either way if you decide to keep them or not, Palm Beach Dyno or Lund Racing would be the options I would suggest. They both can tune with or without the IMRC without issue and have your setup making great power across the range. We also sell the X4s. If you have any questions about the process, feel free to shoot me a message. Lethalperformance.com

I know you didn’t ask but give the GT350 manifold with the stock 5.0 80mm TB some thought. IMRC are plug and play.
I lug my setup down to 1500 RPM’s in 6th gear at about 35 to 40 MPH with no bucking and clean throttle response.
The notion there’s a noticeable low RPM torque loss is really not accurate. As of now I’m on the stock tune with the GT350 manifold. Honestly, it rips ass as it is. It took a hundred miles or so for the relearn, so far so good.
The 18 manifold isn’t a clean install like the GT350.
Your car your choice, I get that.

I wish I had gotten mine ported before installing.

Ok,
but this is about retaining the manifold actuator function and I offered up a plug & play option. Nothing more nothing less.

I would highly recommend going to HP tuners forum and start reading up on the manifold swap. I'm running the Ford power pack 2 with the GT350 throttle body with a 18' non-ported manifold with active IMRCs. I went with HP software and couldn't be happier.

I second this. Its not difficult to make the tune changes. And you can learned and finesse the driving habits as you learn more too.

If that is normal I wonder why Ford is using the GT350 manifold on the mach 1, or am I wrong on that?

I've got mine locked out on the stock manifold for 2016 GT, Palm Beach Dyno did the tune for me and I've had no issues, they even got ride of those stupid DTC's p2004 and p2005 because the runners were stuck open.

The early 5.0 manifolds have weak plastic runner actuation rods.
The GT350 has steel, another reason to consider this manifold.
I’m unsure what material rod is used on the 18+ manifold ?
