I have heard that where you mount a catch can has a big impact on its ability to precipitate out oil and water vapor.

Of course, the best places might make draining it difficult.

Having it hang over the exhaust manifold is not a good idea since it gets rather hot there.

Where do you find to be the best place to mount a catch can for passenger side operation? It would be great if cold fresh air was getting to the can.

What manufacturer provided hoses long enough to reach your location?

thanks

I have a UPR catchcan. It's more in price than most, but I'm happy with the fit and finish of the hardware.

I also have a Bob's located in the exact same spot. The 1/4 turn bottom drain valve is easy to get to even with a tin can under it to catch the oil.
The 1/4 turn bottom drain is awesome. Installation, fit, and finish are easy/first class.

I have upr passenger side that mounts in the very front of the egine bay. It gets cooled in there and so it makes it a very good spot.

Jlt driver side is above intake manifold. Very bad location, imo.

After it sitting in the box for well over a year I installed it last month while I did the FRPP stage 2 Power Package. I agree with your description, although mine came with the braided hose and getting the ends on the OEM fittings took some serious pushing. The way the shrink tubing clamps the hose end made it worth it though.

Kinda wish I had done the braided hose for looks. But it functions flawlessly.

Usually brands like JLT and UPR design the line length around a certain mount area. They tend to put a lot of thought on where they mount them so they are in a convenient spot. If your buying a difference brand universal can and buying and running the lines yourself I would see where they are mounting them for reference and mount there.

There should be nothing ever in the driver side catch can.

Well, that's the strut tower, but (relatively) close.

A word of caution on this one - when I got my Bob's Oil Catch Can, the screw they provided was not long enough to engage enough threads to be safe. I went to the local Ace, True Value, Home Depot, and Lowe's, and couldn't find a longer screw that fit the threads. I ended up having to get a screw that was long enough, and run a tap through the firewall hole. No big deal, just annoying.

I saw CJPP post a Mishimoto catch can video today and I am intrigued. I have the JLT now and sometimes its a PITA to get my hand in there and get the canister off. The Mishimoto one is mounted to the radiator support bracket. I may go that route for ease of draining.
