We are planning on visiting Mt Washington, NH later this summer. The private toll road restrictions state that all vehicles have to prove that the transmission can be placed into First gear and held there. Will placing the Auto transmission into Sport and using the paddle gears hold the transmission in first?

First Gear

When in Sport Mode and first gear, the trans. will automatically upshift to 2nd gear before the engine over revs.

Mustm26: So are you saying that if my AT Mustang is on a very steep slope, the transmission will automatically jump to second from first...then if the slope is steep enough it will then jump to third, etc.? Guess we will have to carry a large anchor, to throw out the window.

first gear with paddles

Yes, if you exceed the computer controlled RPM for any gear in S mode with the paddles, it will upshift without your paddles to prevent over revving and hurting the motor/trans.

No if you shift into sport mode, then use a paddle once, it will not up shift on it's own after that. It would sit and bounce off the rev limiter.

Correct, it will NOT shift up when in the S position after activating paddle mode, in fact I have had it shift down into first gear past redline. The motor did not like this. The auto in this car is a little too obeying of the driver's insanity.
