I have 11,000 miles and am on my first set of Super Sports. Since the weather has been poor I took the time to wax and detail the car. To my dismay in front of the rear wheels the paint is horribly chipped. Attached are both the left and right fenders. I wish I would have had the clear bra done in these areas. Live and learn.

I originally didn't do it because the rear quarter panel is connected to the A pillar. So if you do that, you'd also have to do the door. Now seeing as how I went with a full front end+roof Xpel, the only thing left uncovered would be the rear bumper. Now you're talking full car Xpel wrap.

Or you could have just a small section covering that part, which is unsightly and ugly. But if you don't put it on, you'd get rock chips. You're fucked either way.

Looking into this option currently: https://zl1addons.com/products/rock-guards-for-ford-mustang-2015-2017?variant=27482434305

I'd touch up those chips and put PPF on that. There's Xpel patterns that cover this area (high impact pattern & a pattern from the rocker panel group).

Holy christ...thanks for posting! Will definitely do something about it being on autocross and on the road course a lot. Especially autocross courses...good god those parking lots can get nasty.

I have tried to pipe up every opportunity I can about this area. It takes some serious abuse far more than the front. Mudflaps, rock blockers won't stop it either although it may help marginally. I read about others experience before I received mine thus has been installed since new but I have PPF installed on all my vehicles. Even if you refuse to get the front PPF installed do this area if nothing else!

Rear wheel impact area which includes the lower rocker:

I haven't cleaned the car up enough to get a good picture, but mine look a fair bit worse from the road trip I just got back from. 1 day of driving and my rear rockers were completely trashed. I shed a couple of tears. I, too, struggled with the PPF debate. Partial coverage would just make me sad when Ifound chips in the areas not covered. Full coverage is bloody expensive. I chose not too cover.

I plan to keep my car forever - hoping someday to turn it into a Sunday car when I can afford new toys. When that day comes, I'll just reprint the damn thing.

As a side note, for one-day road trip sprints and/or track days, I'm definitely going to put a cheap road wrap on for temporary protection.

Did the full front with the rocker areas and at 4000 miles my paint looks great. This car kicks up crazy rocks PPF is almost a must on high impact areas.

9k miles and rear fenders still look perfect. Guess I should do this before taking it to an event though.

For sure get your quarter panels done, I had the rocks tear my Xpel doing autocross.
Bought a set of these, kinda over priced but they fit good and you can take them off without any tools

Might even put some Gaffer's tape on the QP's just to be safe next race.

I thought that was maybe a typo at the end there, but who knows how far along 3D printers will be in a few years? :)

A $12.95 set of Rock Blockers will prevent most of that.
