At what HP should one sleeve their 5 liter? Any benefits of sleeving if not going over 1000whp?

I am having a block built I will stay under 1000WHP is there any benefit of sleeving a that power level? Also how much extra would that cost on average?

I honestly don’t see any advantage to sleeving a coyote block vs using a stock predator block that costs less than $2k and can be assembled as delivered with no further machine work.

They said they were going to send out my block & the cylinder heads I sent them to get redone. I was just wondering if I should tell them to sleeve it or not but I guess its not worth it

Don't even need a "built" one for those power levels. A good old 5.0L with oil pump gears will handle it just fine.

Sleeving is not needed until 1200++

to sleeve is around $2500-$3500 so I agree with mike you can get a block that is ready to be built for a lot less. for $1900 get a 3.7 bore block or for $900 get a new stock block.

Don't even need opg to run under a 1000. I wouldn't even entertain the idea of sleeving or upgrading the block in any way.

Predator block will get you to 1300+
a sleeved coyote is 1500+
a sleeved predator is 1800+

Can you put gen 3 DI heads on the predator short block in a gen 3 coyote? Seems like it could be a good/cheap alternative to a rod and piston build.

Yes this is what I have but I have a predator crankshaft as well.

The normal would be to run a coyote crankshaft to mimick the gen 3 clearances.

The predator crank is different and it has slightly more stroke.

@illtal what pistons are you running?

I have a stock Gen3 short block and a stock predator short block. I’ve been debating on whether to use the predator as is or with a stroker crank and slightly more compression.

I’d love to know how a gen3 top end, predator bottom end, and a supercharger work together.

afaik you can, just have to use the gen3 head gaskets. Problem is a new predator from ford is a bit pricy ($7500 plus core plus shipping)if you can find a dealer willing to sell you one. The block and crank are cheap-ish, but the pistons, rods, and rings aren’t. Even still, it looks like you can piece together a stock predator short block for about $6000 using all new ford parts, which isn’t so bad I guess. To me it’s a way stronger option than aluminator for not much more money.

I'm using a tkm short block predator crank boost line rods, wisco pistons. 12:1. Heads will be ported by Frankenstein. Rev limit 8500. I have posts in the build thread. I will likely be turbo after it's all said and done.

I will also be using either the SCE head gaskets or a custom thickness because the oem predator is not thick enough on this combo.

If you have the 9.5 compression I'm sure you can make way more boost.

You can use a stoker crank but I would rather have the RPM of the stock crank.

I would throw some 10.5:1 pistons in it. TKM offers those now for coyote, voodoo, and predator. If they had those when I ordered many months ago I would have taken those.

On a side note now much dome does the stock gen 3 have is it 7cc?

I have a TKM block with Darton sleeves. Sleeving only added $750 when I built mine a couple years ago. I'm sure like everything it's more now but I thought it was a no-brainer.
