I may catch some flack but at this time I am really liking the look of these factory wheels. I really would like a wider version so could use wider than these 235 tires. I can’t seem to find any wider than the original 8". Am I SOL on this thought?

If you can locate a machine shop or wheel specialist, they should be able to cut and widen these stock wheels. Maybe purchase another set off CL, e-bay, etc and have those widened.

Welding up wheels. Wheels aren’t really that important, who cares if they explode. Sounds like a safe thing to do, I’m in.
I get the initial skepticism—I do, 'cause I had it as well, but in researching I've found naught but standout reviews for Weldcraft, and absolutely nothing in the way of... we'll call them spectacular decompressions. :giggle: Even from here. The worst that could be said, as detailed in that thread, is that they're about the only business left that fills this niche. Someone who specialized in single-bead widening retired in 2019, which pretty much only leaves Weldcraft's two-bead method.

Given your handle, I'll also go ahead and address it: would I trust these for track use? No. Get a set of wheels on the cheap that can take a beating if you're hitting asphalt once a month, a nicer set if it's a track rat. On a street car that'll rarely—if ever—see over 100 miles an hour, on gentle curving highways and city streets? For someone who just wants to maintain the original appearance of the vehicle but have a little more shoe to play with? Go wild.

You’re probably right, I tend to view things from the point of pushing the car hard and failure is catastrophic at say, 130mph…

And there's nothing wrong with that. :like: It needs to be said, lest someone get the idea in their head that they can just widen their stock wheels to hit the track instead of shelling out for a whole new set. As you say, failure is catastrophic at 130mph—and more...

I also like to stock wheels. Not that they are anything special but a nice clean design, factory styling and only 24 pounds. I lowered my car with the Ford Performance Street Handling Package and installed slightly wider tires 255/45/18. The tire I went with is Continental DWS 06. The tire itself is wider, slightly smaller 27.1 vs 27.3 for the OEM Pirelli and also a few pounds lighter. It also has a much more performance oriented thread design. My Premium non PP cars rides and handles much better than the OEM setup. It also looks better in my opinion. I used Steeda rear spring Spacers for a rake in my stance.

The 255/45/18 Continental tires are the largest size Continental recommends for 18x8” wheels. They look natural on the wheel and have no bulge.
