I just put on cervinis hood struts and when I close the hood then lift it up the brackets that on fender turn in. Does the longer piece that goes inside fender face the back or front of car?

I am talking about the piece that goes inside the fender. It has a long end and short one.

The instructions show the long end of that piece pointing to the outside of the car, not front or back. Not sure what keeps it from turning when you tighten the bolt but the implication is if you have the required 1/4" of threads showing when you install it, the curved end (which points up) will grab something inside the fender to keep it from turning.
