Now that I finally have a cool aftermarket hood, I'm finally motivated to lose the prop rod. But a lot of the air struts I've read about specify that they're designed for OEM hoods. Considering what I paid for my new hood, I'd hate to break it! So I'm focusing on kits that have big mounting plates to spread out the load. Has anybody tried air struts on a carbon fiber hood?

AM has some hood struts that say they will work on aftermarket hoods. They do advise that if your hood is lighter than OEM, just be careful as it may come up quicker than you think. You may want to check into some of their stuff.

I would not be as worried as it flinging up as I would closing it and having the hood fold in half like a soft taco shell from the resistance of the shock:crazy:

No real answer, but just a counter point: since you have a cool new hood, it should never be up. People can't appreciate the hood that way!
