I think he was saying the opposite in jest. As for tough Scotsman we had the Canadian Highlanders better known as the Black Watch who were referred to as "The Ladies from Hell" for the pipers who would go over the trenches leading the charge that the Germans thought were crazy. It takes a tough SOB to walk into battle armed with just a bagpipe I used to go to the local Highland Games as a boy here as my family are Scottish immigrants from about the 1850's.
