Hi all,

Have had my full arh catted h-pipe setup for almost a year now. It sounds great, but I am finding it is just a little too loud.

Any thoughts on how to make it quieter?

I remember reading sometime ago about a guy here who put in some sort of resonator or inline muffler or something. Can't find the post now.

Has anyone done this with an arh setup?

Since you say its a full ARH w/HF Cats I'm assuming its all 3"

Basically here's the 3 options I looked at to calm down my AFE Power headers with X pipe and S-Type exhaust.

I ended up going with the MF12469 in place of the X-pipe, mainly because of pressure from the wife to "quiet down the F-ing car"..Cold Start was especially brutal....LOL.

My exhaust shop said it would take the volume down 20%, it actually took it down more than that. I would say a good 1/3 to 40%. Its louder than stock with the stock resonator, especially over 4000 rpm's, but nowhere near where it was with that X-pipe in there. Really quiet on highway cruise now, no droan.

The inline resonators, I thought about them. I asked my exhaust guys and they said about 10% decrease, not much to those bullet resonators. I didn't think that was going to be enough for what I needed, but as you know......exhaust volume is all in the ear of the beholder.....

Resonators will definitely help.

Yes, I am full 3". Not sure I want to replace the h-pipe with something like the mf12469. Was definitely thinking something inline. Maybe since your exhaust guys underestimated the reduction on the 12469, same can be said with their estimate on the inline ones?

I have 0 drone right now - am not sure if introducing something inline risks introducing drone?

Decisions, decisions.

I did Race bullets on my MBRP exhaust and I would say 10% volume reduction is about accurate. Cold starts are always going to be an issue. I have the quietest SOLO catback and it's still too loud at start-up. If I ever do add headers, I will absolutely have to add something to quite it down.

cold starts can be quieted down in the tune, fyi.

Good call.

I got in touch with Lund, Jon sent me an update with some cold start changes for what he calls the 'loud exhaust guys'. It works absolutely brilliantly. Cold starts are much quieter.

However, cold starts were not my only (or even necessarily main) concern, so still may look at inline resonators.

I installed (2) Vibrant resonators on my full system with the ARH mufflers and it sounds perfect. you can get them in 2 1/2 or 3''. I put them were my x-pipe was and just custom made an h-pipe.
