Wow thats honestly really underwhelming in terms of weight savings. When I worked in motorsports we would save 15lbs in the hood. Im sure its probably due to the excess resin and layers they add to these in order to make them solid for the masses and provide a better gloss finish.
We will be producing "Dry" aka "Pre-Preg" aka "Autoclave" components for the S550 in the very near future. We already have these parts for the pre 2015 models. "Dry" Carbon Doors for the 2005-2009 Mustang; for example, weigh in at just under 10 lbs. Other Dry Carbon products such as hoods & decklids often weigh in under 10 lbs.

Wet-laid vacuum molded carbon obtains the glossy wet look, aero and cooling enhancements as well as enough weight savings to make it the preferred choice for many customers. Since we manufacture both "Wet" and "Dry" Carbon options we can gladly meet the demands of various customer taste and budgets.

Have you guys had anybody paint the CF? I'm interested in the designs, but I don't like the bare carbon look.

Yes they get painted often. In fact we strongly suggest you use an automotive clear, wrap, or paint to prolong the life and finish of the carbon.

Here is a photo of an um; cough, cough.. (I am posting a picture of a Camaro on a Mustang Forum) with Anderson Composites Painted Doors, hood and Fenders:

Question: your rear avalanche, is it a direct replacement? no drilling require? Any plan on making installation videos for your products?
