Interesting point about the width - I had a set of Pirelli Trofeo R tires in 285/35 and I referred to them as my "305/33" tires because they were as wide as the MPSC2 305/30's. Sounds like the 285/40's are more like a 305/37.
Yes, Michelin apparently made these N-Spec tires for Porsche to go on their turbo cars and Panamera vehicles so the 285's run pretty wide.

Not sure I've seen this idea yet, so figured I'd post what I just did. I installed Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires 295/35 19s all around (GT350 spec wheel sizes, rear are a half inch wider). This way for $80 at Discount Tire I could do a true tire rotation if I wanted (unmount and remount tires needed as staggered size wheels). I got 20,000 miles out of the stock Michelins, but the rear are bald, front still have a lot of life (now I have four spare tire/wheels, I managed to fit all in my backseat and trunk to drive around with all the time just in case, lol, kidding).

The Contis are "soft" with a much smoother ride than the Michelins and eliminate tramlining 100%. I wasn't necessarily going for a softer ride, but for daily driving they are nice, I swear this thing is smoother than my Cadillacs.

The smaller width 295 out back aren't noticeable even though the wheels themselves are 0.5" wider than the front. Speedometer was off by 2mph at 80mph, but fixed easily with forscan, see instructions below.

FYI: My wheels are Forgeline GA1R Open Lug wheels in satin black in GT350 spec sizes.
I also installed Powerstop Z26 brake pads which eliminated brake squeal and dust, as well as Caliperfexion studs for the front brakes, makes changing pads a breeze. Just ordered Dura-Dressing permanent tire dressing, then my wheel project will finally be finished.

Forscan Instruction Summary (Detailed)
Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with most of these discoveries and take credit for none of them. I am simply summarizing what a bunch of geniuses came up with. This is aimed at those with GT350s but I am sure it can be used for other models as well with a few tweaks. Use at your own risk.

1. Need laptop with windows operating system (make sure date and time are accurate on computer, if outside of extended license range it will not load the extended license, see below about getting extended license). Must use same device to install forscan, install license, and link to car.

2. Buy https://amzn.com/B006NZTZLQOBDLinkMXBluetooth (best connection, as wifi options are prone to disconnections)

If your windows computer does not have bluetooth, also buy https://amzn.com/B009ZIILLI

3. Download forscan http://forscan.org/download.html(to windows computer you will make mods with)

Choose "FORScan version 2.3.11 (or whatever the latest version is at the time, as of Sept 2019 it’s 2.3.24) beta for Windows - free." Do not use Wine version. Will need extended license version to make modifications

4. Sign up for forum http://forscan.org/forum/ucp.php?mode=register

5. Wait for registration email from FORScan

6. Obtain extended license http://forscan.org/forum/extlic.php

7. Open FORScan and Click bottom Left "About" button that looks like a steering wheel with a question mark in the middle to obtain your devices hardware ID to apply for license and to load license, when successful should read, "Extended License. Registered to..."

8. Plug OBDMX into port

9. Key On, Engine Off. Car should have a full battery and DO NOT let battery get below 11.4V, risk damage. I spent over an hour connected with no battery drain problems. If you have a goal of what you will modify before you connect to car it shouldn't take more than 15min from here on

10. Start forscan on windows computer with bluetooth

11. Click "connect to vehicle" at bottom

12. Click left "Configuration and Programming button" (computer chip)

13. Click on APIM, IPC, BdyCM, ACM (all AS BUILT) or RCM (not AS BUILT) depending what you want to modify:

RCM Enable/Disable Seatbelt minders (can also do it manually without needing FORScan, see 18. below)

BdyCM (As Built) line 726-12-01 Speedometer Correction for rear tire size change.

Speedometer works off diameter of rear tires, so if you just change the front size it doesn’t matter.

Mine reads XXXX 0844 XXXX for my stock 305/35 19s (GT350 non-R). Here are a few values for different tire sizes (pretty much all of the current tire sizes on the market for a good fit on the standard 19x11 rear wheels):

295/35/19 XXXX 082D XXXX

305/30/19 XXXX 07ED XXXX

285/35/19 XXXX 0818 XXXX

To find the code for other tire sizes and even a truing calculator to adjust speedometer to GPS speed go to the link below, “Spart” over at Mustang6g.com came up with this:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mWnuQZlDTUGjKjmJje1QJIR8Z2c7Kf8KBZxKnw_8EqU/edit?usp=sharing

You WILL get a non-MIL (malfunction indicator lamp) DTC P160A (Control Module Vehicle Options Reconfiguration Error) when you change BCM line 726-12-01. You will need forscan 2.3.11 or later here to fix a DCT error.

Go into the computer chip tab in forscan where you normally edit as-built. At the top, you'll see a new function for the PCM - "Module initialization/relearn vehicle data"

Highlight that function and hit the play button, and follow the onscreen instructions to the letter.
Once it's finished, rescan for DTC's and remove the P160A DTC by clicking on the yellow yield sign at the bottom. Go drive around and scan for DTC's again. You should be in the clear.
Note that if you ever wish to return to stock, you'll have to run this procedure again after setting the as-built values for the tire size back to stock.

14. Hit play button on bottom to show codes in the category from step 13.

15. Make modifications to codes as desired (Write down your original codes in case you want to ever revert changes)

16. Click write. Follow instructions given to cycle "key on engine off" / "key off engine off" if needed.

17. Hit stop button on bottom.

18. You can also turn off/on the seatbelt minders per the owner's manual page 31 as follows: Key on engine off, then wait until seatbelt light turns off on dash. Once light goes out, wait 5 seconds, then slowly plug/unplug seatbelt three times. After the third time the light will come back on, then plug/unplug one more time. Seatbelt light will now flash to confirm. Repeat on other seat. Repeat to turn back on if desired.

Good stuff!!!:like:

Could you add the Forscan line to the post above- would make it easier and non dependent on your availability to answer a PM...

Thanks Ryan, the car looks amazing!!!

How much weight did you save per wheel?

How's this:

upload_2019-10-17_10-43-7.png

The two values in violet are the OEM rear tires. The rest are options.
Great chart, the values are very slightly different from mine, maybe because the tire sizes in violet are the size on an R?

9 lbs per wheel.
There's a spreadsheet online (Google Sheets) that does this calculation but it's off by 1 on the results when you compare Ford's as-builts with the computed values for the GT350 305/35x19 size and the 315/30x19 GT350R size. Now, a difference of 1 in 2000 or so isn't much, but I've learned the hard way that if you can't exactly replicate the "correct" answer, then your method has an error in it. I changed the scale factor to 0.9675 instead of 0.967 which is used in the online calculator, and with that subtle change, the computed values for the GT350 and the R match the Ford as-builts exactly. Those are the violet lines in the table and that's the scalar I used.

Any reason to not go 19x10.5 for rear wheels (as well as front) if I plan on doing a similar setup? If the tires are 295 front and back, might as well save a bit of weight on the rear wheels, tires/grip are the same whether 11 or 10.5 for the wheel. Am I missing something?

No, you are right. If I bought new wheels I would get 10.5s or 11s all the way around, I bought mine as a used set of original size staggered wheels, got a good deal.

You could always get a set of the LMR SVE replicas (or one of the other brands) for the 350 or 350R and throw a set of the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ on them for everyday street use. I don't have a GT350, but I run them on my GT. The A/S 3+ are really nice tire and are more than enough for any type of driving you will see on the street. This way you can save the factory wheels and tires for the track. Also, at 24lbs a wheel the SVE would save you a few lbs on each corner and a significant amount of money if you ever needed to replace it.

I'm looking at going this route and looking for reasonably priced 19x10 or 10.5 wheels for a square winter setup. I was looking at the LMR SVE replicas and they all have a fitment note "Does not fit GT350 or GT350R". True? Any other suggestions for winter wheels?

They make a version for the GT350/R. They come in 19x10 and 19x11.

If you're really concerned about narrow-looking tires, you can run Michelin AS/3+ run-flats in 325/30x19 on the back if you have rims with the right width and offset, matched with AS/3+ 285/35x19 run-flats on the front. Personally I run 275/40 front/ 285/40 rear AS/3's through the year unless I'm tracking the car. A little more ride height, no tramlining, rainworthy, looks good, etc.
This is what I run on some SVE 350R replicas for winter here in Denver. They are a fantastic tire and grip far better than expected. They don't have the same slanted sidewall look but thats ok. I will say the car does want to push a little more now as the grip offset front to rear now leans toward a wider disparity for more rear grip than with stock width tires. I have only noticed that with heavily spirited mountain driving so far. I will switch back to PSS tires like the pre 19 models came with for summer as my experience with SC2s on the street are that they are far less than ideal.

I've been browsing alternative tire options as well and made a quick list of the available tire sizes that were relatively close to OEM. I'm sure this isn't everything that's out there but maybe it will help.

285/30-19 & 305/30-19 Conti Extreme Contact SPORT is another option. 10.2" & 10.9" treadwidths would fit perfectly
on 10.5 & 11" wheels.
