I just installed a sub in my base model. You will need an amp and a line out converter. You can wire the LOC into the rear deck speakers.

I have the alpine MRXv70. It does have built in line converters but I am still using an external kicker KISLOC LOC. I was told by a few people to use the built-in converter but often times I read about people having noise issues.

The sound is controlled from the front. I havent tuned the amp and sub yet other than basic settings. I have not connected the front speakers to it yet either. I will do this later on.

I am gonna try one of the JL Audio powered subs, how did you guys tap into the existing speaker wires? did you cut them twist together or use something else?

I wish we could add a factory sub to the base audio or even premium audio. Someone tried it and found unless you have shaker pro, the harness for the sub is not included.

The harness would carry the signal and (low) power to the unit. Why not just run a new wire from the battery back, and tape into the rear deck?

You would have a much better signal and power supply this way. The box could tuck into the rear right corner of the trunk too.

Well, I just hate the idea of running wires.

I was thinking of doing this set up I have a dB sub and a amp about the same size. I like this idea of mounting the amp on to the enclosure. So does it sound good.

Not the cleanest set up but then again I'm not done yet

I was thinking of mounting my amp to the sub but it's a pain if you want to remove the sub. You've got to disconnect all the wiring for the amp too. I thinking I'm going to put my amp on drivers side so if I need to carry anything large I can still put down the passenger seat.
