Hey there my friends, I am about to trade my 2016 Corvette Z06 w/10K miles and Z07 package (manual transmission) for a 2017 GT350R with around 950 miles on it (break in not even complete) with a removable roll cage. I want something more usable on the street, yet special and awesome to drive. Am I being stupid by making this trade? I of course am going to drive the car before I officially do the trade, but anyone have any thoughts/opinions on this?

Thanks so much!

Not crazy at all. As a former Z06 owner, I can tell you the R is a very unique experience and I'd rather own it than a corvette.

Ohhhh, I'll stay in contact with you. I need to find out who installed it and get it removed. Once I have the parts in hand, I'll PM you!

Thanks for the interest :)

I admittedly haven't had any seat time in a Z06, but have considerable time in my father's 15 Z51 Stingray. I can only imagine that the Z06 would exude the same attributes only turned up to 11 considering it's increased performance threshold.

IMO I think the Z06 would be TOO much for the street. I momentarily cross shopped them when I bought my R, as they are near enough the same price here in Canada, but I truly felt the R would be a more fun car to drive on the street where it spends its time and not be as anxiety/stress inducing to push on a back road.

Certainly nowhere near as capable as the Z06, and not as widely talented in regards to being a supercar killer + an amazing grand tourer with a great interior, but I do think it is more fun and engaging. The Voodoo alone makes it the most entertaining and fun to drive vehicle I've ever been in

If it is a Watson racing 4 point roll cage, it is easy. Look at Watson racing 4 point and peruse the install instructions. Removal would be in reverse order.

PM me for a possible sale.

Oh, and congrats on the trade. I'm congratulating you because it is a no brainer.

Keep in mind where you asked this question :) The Z06 is pretty sweet. Other than being a lower seating position, I cant' think of many things that would make it a more challenging DD than the GT350R. They are both lowered 2-seat sports cars - there's always a trade off.

That said, I enjoy my GT350R...and I've been considering converting it to DD use and selling my current DD....

Is this the blue one in Los Gatos? I was curious who made that cage as well.

Send us a picture of the cage, if in BayArea it might be from TC Design. They hand build 1/2 and full cages for a lot of our cars. Specialist is BMW and Porsche but have seen a killer setup in a GT350R as well.

I too want a cage, but I also want back seats to take kids to school. Whit this car you could do both. I picked up the FP back seat kit and will install that in a few months and have also been looking at the Watson purpose built bar- looks removable enough.

I'm new to the GT350R and only have 550miles and love each of them so far! Your going to love the car- go for it!

If you are like me I found the standard 2017 GT350 needing another 150hp. There is no way to do it without throwing out your factory warranty. My car went through 2 engines which would have been on me if I had done the modifications to bring the HP up.

I got a C7 Zo6 Zo7 package to replace the car after Ford bought the car back.

The Corvette is much better handling rough pavement. There is a fun road near my house that is fairly rough. Any faster than 55 mph in the Mustang and the front end would scrape. It is only going to be worse in an "R". The Corvette can drive a solid 75 without any problem and no tramlining.

Drive the GT350 hard first. Ask yourself of it is enough.
