We got a 2021 platinum with the 3.0tt, 4wd, A10, and 3.31 gears.

There’s not really anything wrong with the A10 in my Mustang. The programming just sucks and that makes it annoying to daily drive.

But the Explorer A10 is just shockingly better. The programming is spot on. It’s always in the right gear, it doesn’t hunt, it doesn’t jerkshift when slowing down, and it doesn’t lug. It also doesn’t whine like a supercharger unlike the Mustang. I have yet to have a single complaint about it.

It’s hard to believe they are the same transmission. I do have a supercharged 6 speed ordered from Zach and will be selling the A10 Mustang.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm taking my 2019 into the dealership Tuesday to try to get my clunky A10 performing better...

My buddies A10 in his ZL1 (same trans) he says works flawlessly and is amazing. He has tracked the car as well and leaves it in "sport" mode or whatever the ZL1 option is. I had an EB A10 S550 'vert for a week and dang was it so clunky, odd to drive even paddle shifting I knew immediately the M6 was the way to go for me. Sorry to the A10 guys here.

One thing that really smoothed out my A10 was correcting tire size in Forscan. I put on 285/35/19s which are slightly shorter than the stock PP1 (275/40/19)

Actually it's not the same transmission. The mustang/ranger/new bronco/f150 and expedition get the 10R80, while the explorer gets the 10R60. Why ford chose to use a different trans just for the explorer, I don't know, but they did.

BTW most competent tuners can improve the characteristics of the trans with a tune. I would rather try that for a couple bills before I dump the car.

What year mustang?

My 2018 Premium car shifted like absolute garbage compared to my 2020 PP1 A10.

Not that the 2018 was bad. Pretty good actually in sports its just my 2020 A10 is a different league better. 3.55s > 3.15s too MAJOR improvement for daily all motor setup.

I still suspect the 2020 could be better. Well find out soon with a flex tune too.

Never ever compare any part of a car against a rental. The 10R80 is a learning trans so it is going to suck in any rental. Probably had regular gas in it too. Most of us A10 guys and girls are just fine.

10r80 and 10r60 is the same case and same ratios. It just has a smaller torque rating.

My point is, I'm not saying they are interchangeable. I'm saying, if they can make a 10 speed auto work this well in one car, why can't they it make it work well in another.

Odd the Explorer has the smaller torque rating. It makes 380 lbs of torque vs 420 lbs with the Coyote. Thats a toss up. Not a big difference. And the Explorer is rated for 5600 lbs towing.

Yeah but if it needs that to run good what does that say. I do have the Ford Performance tune and it did improve shifting for a bit, I imagine the kam got reset, then after awhile the wonky shifting came back.

I have the exact opposite opinion. I love the 10 speed in the Mustang. No complaints. I always drive in S+ mode. In the Raptor my A10 didn't feel great. Regular mode was too dull and sport mode was too much. In the Explorer ST, the 10 speed is very much like the Raptor was. It is improved a bit, but still seems to hunt a bit in normal mode.
