A quick search shows a 5 liter is about 450# and a 7.3 powerstroke diesel is about 920#. That's a big number. Keep in mind that the powerstroke diesel had to be built around the needed 17.5:1 compression ratio that a diesel needs. If the engine was redesigned for gasoline, I think there could be a large weight savings. Again, imagine FI on top of a monster like that? Shwew!
Jesus Christ guys. The 7.3 Godzilla motor is a GAS engine. Not the Powerstroke diesel lmao. Ford just released it for 2020. It’s an entirely new design sharing nothing with the old diesel. They’re making 800hp NA already with a motor that has barely even been released. You guys are killing me. LMAO

I was using that reference for a weight figure from a quick google. I didn't see a weight listed for the 7.3 godzilla.

Have another cup of coffee....

Why on earth would you use a diesel motor as a reference for a gas engine? Cubic inches do not translate from a 20 year old diesel.
The Godzilla 7.3 is 538lbs. But that’s a deep skirt iron block as I’ve said. The 6.8 being aluminum should be close to 100lbs lighter. Referencing the Windsor platform, an aluminum Man O War block is 108lbs, 100lbs lighter than an iron 302/351 block.

so that would put the 6.8 around 438lbs.

How much does a 7.3 weigh vs a 5.0? If the 6.8 is a de-stroked 7.3 that would mean a 6.8 will be a tad heavier than a 7.3.
Should be a fairly accurate comparison between the 7.3 and a 5.0 weight wise.
Edit: Google says 445 lbs for a 5.0 and 538 lbs for a 7.3. So a bit more than 538 lbs for a 6.8.
Just over 100 lbs more for a 6.8 maybe.
I posted 538 earlier in my otherwise f-upped post.

So an extra 100 or so pounds for a monster of an engine. Sounds like a no brainer to me.

For the reason I already stated. It was a quick google. Anymore insults?

Not an extra 100lbs. That’s the 7.3 weight. The 6.8 is going to be an aluminum block so 100lbs lighter than the 7.3’s iron. So that’s 438lbs for 6.8L vs 450lbs for 5.0L

Definitely not trying to insult anyone, sorry if I came off that way. Just really frustrated at the negativity towards this engine and the huge amount of misinformation regarding it. Just trying to clear things up.

I apologize for my lack of tact in my frustrations.

We are good, again it was a quick grab at a number and I did say that weight could be reduced by a lot. Im all for this new 6.8 and am looking forward to more information

I can't see a large displacement engine ever going back into the Mustang again. It was never about displacement for the stang and with the world leaning more towards smaller displacement + boost it's not likely. That and the current success of the coyote.

Lots of rumors floating around, but ultimately time will tell.
