Looking in my owners manual on page 299 it says Motor Oil (US) Motocraft Premium Synthetic blend 5W-30 On my oil filler cap it say 5W20

Just got car back from service and on paperwork it shows they filled it with 10qts of 5W20

Which is correct 5W20 or 5W30

Ive also noticed that since I got car back the oil pressure gauge is off the charts crazy, reading more like the vacuum gauges, never did that before.

Your manual should say 5w20, they didn't move to 5w30 for the 5.0 till 2021.

That said either works just fine. I ran 5w20 till my 2nd 3rd change them moved to 5w30. 20 gives a VERY tiny bit better MPG, 30 gives a TINY bit better protection. But in the end as long as you are changing regularly and using a quality filter there is 0 difference.

The oil gauge goes all over unless you actually pay attention to it you're not likely to notice how much it moves. I have the same reaction after every change.

I just switched to 5w30 after hearing the 21's were doing it and I've def noticed less burn off and less in my oil catch. I'll be using 5w30 going forward.

Just realized I was being stupid and reading the wrong section of the manual 5W20 is what it calls for

Thanks for reply, maybe I'll switch to 5w30 at next change

I had a discussion with my dealership service manager about this very topic. Once I pointed out to him that the 2021 Mach 1 requires 5W30 and has the same engine as my 2020 Bullitt, he indicated I could use 5W30 and Ford would cover any warranty issues as long as there was no direct correlation to the oil change and the warranty issue.
Next oil change will be 5W30.

I mean same could be said about running 5w50. Long as Ford can't prove that the oil caused the failure you're covered. It's the same thing with any modification you do. Ford technically must prove that the modification caused the failure.

The problem is that if Ford says "Well you used the wrong oil, that caused it" how many people have the time and money to disprove Ford? Ford's aware most don't.

I stuck with 5W20 for first two oil changes, then went with 5W30 going forward. Happy to trade a little bit of mileage for better protection. This is what my service advisor suggested when I asked him at the first oil change.

50w is a bit much for street, so far I've not heard/read where Ford denied service cause by the oil................ unless it was never changed or none found LOL.

As to fuel consumption being increased, I doubt that would be worth thinking about .

As others said, either. My manual and cap say 5W20 for normal fill, and also recommends 5W30 for track. I just use 5W30. First change was at 2K miles. Next change will likely be with Amsoil. I also use the larger Ford Performance FIlter.

I just made the switch yesterday with my second oil change I've done myself. I bought used and it had had one OC by the dealer I bought it from. (5,700 miles on it when I purchased). I noticed it had a cheap oil filter, so I wanted to upgrade quickly. I went with Castrol EDGE Extended Performance 0W-20 after a ton of research.

I had the tick before and after my OC, so again after a ton of research I added one bottle of Ceratec and the tick went away. I live in the country and I get on it all the time. So I decided to go with the same oil brand, but 5W-30. I did go with one bottle of Ceratec again, I wasn't going to wait to see if it stayed tickless without it. Less friction is better IMHO. I did mix the heck out of it as I was filling, putting it in my first 5 quart jug after half was put in the car, then continued the fill. We'll see how it goes!
