I. AM. EXCITE!

Id guess 600hp NA easy.

If a little is good, you always want more. Today’s modern Coyote and Voodoo engines are definitely good, so why not add a little displacement. That’s exactly what MAST Motorsports had it mind with its new line of hand-built Coyote engines based on the vaunted Voodoo block used in the modern Shelby GT350.

“It is based on a 5.2 Voodoo block and we put some stroke in it, so it’s now a 5.4,” MAST’s Sales Manager, Russell Lehart, told us. “We are using the Voodoo heads, we put some cams in it and we are still going to retain the variable valve timing. We should have it on the dyno when we get it back from PRI.”

Upon that top-shelf Voodoo foundation, the MAST team bolsters the engine with a Callies stroker crankshaft, Callies rods, and Mahle forged pistons. Supporting hardware includes a Daily five-stage dry-sump oiling system, a Ford Performance throttle body and a Ford Performance Cobra Jet intake manifold.

More stroke lowers the red line but raises the torque... as a generalization.

Lets be honest 5.4 isnt a very big engine. I see no reason this engine properly built cant spin 8k.

it would be a very good side effect to see the tq numbers come up.

Id really like to see the stroker bottom end gt350 heads and GT350 intake under a stock 5.0 cover.

keep it covert and make it look like notbing out of the ordinary but make 600 wbp NA.

That my friends would wreck some feelings LOL.

"Hey, what's the best way to make the primary shaking forces of this engine even worse?"

"let's add more stroke"

"Brilliant!"

It doesn't say that anywhere.
It uses the Voodoo block and Voodoo heads so 5.2 block and heads.

Where does it say its a FPC crank. I hope thats not what you expected........

This isnt Mast's 1st rodeo theyve been in the LS world for a long time. I promise you they know what they are doing........

They will be offering 5.2 engines if using the 5.0 block or 5.4 if using a 5.2 block.

Their crank obviously gains .2 liters.

It doesnt say its a FPC either crank but i HIGHLY doubt it.

Id expect it to be cross plane crank and the 5.4 version with GT350 heads to make 600 NA hp pretty easily.

Actually it states clearly in the op that it uses a Callies stroker crank, so no fpc in the build

:frusty: Callies is a brand not a design type.

The article does not say its a flat plane crank or cross plane crank.

Ill go out on a limb and be willing to bet its NOT FPC crank.

True, Callies is a brand, but unless they've added something new to their catalog very recently no one in the after market offers a stroker crank for the Coyote or Voodoo in a flat plane design, and even if there is one it would be unreasonably expensive so common sense would indicate that since they are using an after market crank it would be a standard cross plane design. No need to bang you head over it, or to over think it so much

It is possible to modify a stock crank to increase the effective stroke by narrowing the rod journals. Specifically the centerline of the journal gets moved outward which increases the stroke. Obviously this is very limited compared to making an entirely new crank from scratch. Also this leads to the potential of reducing the strength of the crank but it doesn't seem to be a huge concern with experienced machine shop.

edit: Called offset grinding.

i highly doubt that would net a .2 liter gain though. I dunno but I doubt it.

Id still be willing to bet these Callies cranks are all new.

Is "Voodoo" reference to the 5.2 block or just the FPC?

My opinion is that Voodoo is in reference to the FPC engine. Both the Voodoo and the Coyote share the same block architecture meaning they are essentially interchangeable. Yes there are differences but nothing that couldn't be overcome with parts choices. Not like the difference between Mod motor or a small block.
