what rear end gear you running? What kind of rpm going down the freeway at 65?
Currently running a 3.73 ring & pinion, with a 28" tire = 3,200 rpm @ 65mph. I will be switching to a 3.55 ring & pinion over the winter because I'm hitting ~ 8,050 rpm @ 161 mph as I cross the finish line and I want to turn it up some more next year. Another benefit of the TH400 is you get a real trans brake that will hold whatever rpm you care to launch at...

Can you believe I'm still rocking the Vortech and its still a full weight PP premium car!@$%! Since I hijack'd your thread, here's in-car vid of that pass showing the TH400 in operation. I have a fist full of 8s passes now and the TH400 makes the car very consistent and reliable:

Hijack away ! What’s mine is yours friend. Lol.
its not like I have any new content and seeing how much progress you have made is inspiring.

it certainly will help shape what direction I ultimately go with this car .

while the idea of finding a roller and building a race car sounds like fun it’s less practical and I am sure more expensive than using what I already have as a foundation for one .

Doing a TH400 and keeping the current motor makes more sense than having to swap Gen3 motor /10r80( will need a new power adder too ) if I want a race car.

If the roller does however happen to materialize someday I will have different options of Power/drive train to use ... but that’s getting ahead of myself ... like I tend to do .

lol

A 6r80 swap may also be an option . Plenty of fast 6r80 street cars too .
@80FoxCoupe is an example -

I suspect the cost of swapping a built 6r80/converter (clutches , IS and planetary gear rebuilt alone is about $4K plus cost of transmission) is similar or more .

I already have a car with one so it would nice to have variety and try something new .

Do you keep the ECU with a TH400 swap ?

I would prefer a turn key package .... some thing like this .
https://www.jpcracing.com/jpc-s550-th400-swap-package-stage-2/
Some have said it’s not “complete “ .
what do you think ?
If I can find a buyer for my Magnum XL that would recoup some of the cost too.
I used the JPC S550 line-lock kit, JPC S550 shifter mount, and the JPC S550 TH400 mount - all quality parts. JPC doesnt manufacture or assemble the TH400 and whoever they use I have read mixed reviews. I measured and created a 2D drawing for the drive shaft and had the Drive shaft shop make it and it was cheap and works great. Tons of choices for TH400 and converters; I strongly recommend that whoever you use make sure they use the Reid racing bell housing for the coyote/TH400 and if you can swing it budget wise, just get the TH400 built with the entire Reid case, tail housing, and bell housing which is all SFI safety spec. I have the Reid Bell and tail housing and will be swapping over to the Reid case myself in the future.

Yes, stock ECU with a quick tune revision from Lund. 6R80 records are super impressive but the 6R80 can't touch the TH400 durability and consistency

Do you have to shift it manually?

How'd you wire up the reverse lights and back-up camera? I'm getting ready to tackle this with my th400 swap.

Yes, you shift the TH400 manually (powerglide shifts manually also).
Just to be clear, its because they have been outfitted with manual valve bodies. Both can shift automatically. Thats just not desired in a race application.
