I'm looking to swap out the 3.73s with 3.31s in hopes to gain more traction in 1st and 2nd. The car sees too much rain to drive with drag radials on, thus I'm running pure all season street tires, General Gmax AS05s 275/40/19 to be specific.

Can anyone who has done this swap provide feedback on their results in terms to how the car hooks with street tires after doing the swap?

I have too much money invested into the MT-82 with driveshaft, clutch, and shifter; too just trade it out for a TR6060 or magnum XL. At this point, a gear swap seems much more economical.

I don't think any change in gearing is gonna help you hook with those tires in 1st or 2nd gear. Tires and gears would be the way to go since you have suspension mods already.

I made the change. 3.73 PP car to 3.31
Whipple stage 2, LTs

It went from being easy to spin 1-2-3 to
easy to spin 1-2
and only spinning 3rd on cool days.

with 3.73 drop it into 3rd and punch it and your sideways, not so much with 3.31 now.
plus with 3.73 5th on the highway was over way to fast.

I like how it drives a lot better with 3.31 (it was a tough choice between 3.55 and 3.31)

and thats with 325/30 MPSS on 19"
Your not going to hook on street tires.
Whipple = Monster
HAHAHAHA

Hmmm. I have a set of 3.31 in a aluminum case. Maybe a swap for testing? I'd like to try the 3.73s.

Any of you big power guys ever consider 3.15s? Might actually get you some use out of 1st and require one less shift in the 1/4.

I was looking into 3.15s as well, but they won't fit the torsen. Any of you guys know a ball park estimate of how many hours in labor it would take to swap gears out?
