Light throttle 2k-3k rpm = the VVT. My Tundra has the same. Drives me nuts but it is what it is.
Ceratec additive helps, but the noise is due to the vvc and cam timing. I only get it at light throttle or just off throttle on the 2-3k rev range. Step on the gas and it goes away.
