so you expect a measurable/statistically useful difference between a 150lb driver and a 200lb driver?
Food for thought: 100lbs in the 1/4 mile is widely accepted to be worth 0.100 seconds. This is a generalization, of course. The lower the ET, the less this comes into play. For your standard street car, though, it's very accurate.

Chop that in half and apply it to ALL aspects; acceleration, braking and cornering and you have a surprising amount of time in pocket. Even more so when the lap lasts 8 minutes...

Short answer: Yes.

Excuse me!!!!!

Active in the SCCA World Challenge GT series and the Grand American series' GT class, Pobst was the 2003, 2007, 2008, and 2010 SCCA World Challenge GT champion, the 1996 North American Touring Car Championship title winner, and the 2005, 2006 and 2007 SCCA World Challenge TC vice-champion. He is also a two-time class winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona, in 2001 and 2006.

Randy Pobst has more than 90 pro wins. He is currently a Mazda, Volvo, Audi and Porsche factory supported driver.[
Ya, I know him. He's was fine journeyman. He was never an Ace and he sure as shit isn't now. If I'm going through the effort of taking a car to The 'Ring, I'm putting an Ace in the seat.

BTW, he did a good job in that 2001 Daytona win. He was the 3rd of 4 drivers. His teammates were Sasha Massen, Lucas Luhr and Christian Menzel. I don't have to do a Google search to remember that weekend.

A race mechanic is just a driver that can't make weight. It matters.

Agreed. This would be my choice.

My random thoughts:

I wish the car had a better time, because bragging rights. That being said:

Why do we care? I would argue most people didn't purchase the Mach 1 because of performance numbers. I ordered mine because I wanted a fun-to-drive, good handling, great sounding GT car that I can tote my toddler around in. Nürburgring times are cool and all, but have no bearing on my navigation of the daycare parking lot

Honestly if I didn't need the back seats, from a performance perspective I wouldn't have considered the Mach. I would have purchased a used C6/C7 Z01. And I think we can all accept that the SS1LE Camaro's put down better track times for less cost. But that's not where the Mustang shines. The point of owning the Mustang is to have a car you can use on a daily basis that looks good, sounds good, and drives good. My $0.02.
I would buy Mustang over all the other street cars including M3/M4. But yeah, I was just hoping for a better time for bragging rights.

The things that make a car fast on the Nordschleife do not necessarily make a car good on the street. I personally don't put much value on these numbers.
Yes, this is why it's a "track test" for "track usage" and not a road handling test. 😄

THOSE are Aces. (Especially Mickey)

It would probably be best to get a 'Ring specialist, but you're getting my point.
