I ordered a FJG Mach 1 pov pack as that is all we can get in Oz. The silver fender badges look like crap on the grey, What is Ford thinking? I ordered a car that had black badges.

“I have common sense”
“GT with stickers”

Pick one
Willing to bet you're also one of those people that think the new Bullitt is some special one off collector car too 😂

I think back to the 60s when the GT500 first came out. A few, very few had 427 engines. And those of us that really know special Ford motor company cars have a few that we really think are exceptional. As far as engines go definitely the 429 boss and the 427 medium riser. They were engines at the top of their game and very few cars had them. The 427 tunnel ports powered the Lemans that Ford raced. It was in the days when the car companies actually sponsored racing and had their own cars competing with others. The days of NASCAR which the 427 and boss 429 were made for.

The engines made the car special. And they were designed for a purpose. To compete at the top of their game. Later gt500s were just 428CJ engines (watered down versions of the 427) and on and on until today. It was a time likely not to be repeated. I had a 427 powered car and my buddy had a 429 boss Mustang. Cool, unreliable but powerful gas hogs.

But today's cars are so much better in every way and even if it's just stickers and emblems, who cares? If you think it's cool, it's good!

newsflash; they’re all standard production Mustangs. None of them are special, they’re all based off a 4 cylinder rental car
Well, it may be true that they are all produced on the same assembly line, but they are not the same. Can you name any production car that has multiple trim levels that is NOT based on the most basic trim version?

You’re missing the point. They’re the same car. A badge with a snake doesn’t suddenly make it exotic-level “special”... it’s still just a variant of a 4 banger rental car

That may be true, but as long as the base chassis is quite capable, that's perfectly fine.
And do not forget, that the same applies for almost every car, so according to this argumentation, a Mercedes AMG C63 S with 510HP is just a variant of a diesel taxi (Mercedes C180d with 116HP).

If you go back to the original Mustang or the Fox body Mustang, it's frame and components were shared with regular sedans. This is not the case with the Mustang from at least the S197s and to the current S550. These cars were designed from the ground up to be what it is: Ford's version of a sports/muscle car. Unique parts from the engine to the suspension. The Coyote really is designed to be a Mustang engine regardless of the fact that it's in the F150. Before that the 5.4 and the 4.6 sohc engines were adapted to the Mustang from the truck world. As Ford put more and more money into the Mustang it became more and more unique in the performance world.

Yes the EcoBoost is cheaper but it's roots are in a racing chassis designed by engineers with a world class 4 cylinder engine.

They're are good and a blast to drive.

But the issue is, the base chassis in the S550 ISN’T “quite capable”, and the Shelby does pretty much nothing to fix these shortcomings. With Mercedes and BMW and such, they actually change quite a bit with the chassis for the higher trim models... from unique rear quarters to chassis upgrades, hell Porsche just released a 911 GT3 that has double wishbone front suspension while the standard 911 has MacPherson strut. But ultimately, both Shelby’s still have MacPherson strut, both have the flawed S550 rear suspension geometry, both have the same heavy steel chassis, both have the same rear bodywork, both are still front-heavy as hell... there’s nothing “special” about them, they’re just a base model with some parts bolted on

Not necessarily... the platform is still D2C based, which was designed for the Mustang and a series of RWD sedans (which got cancelled once the recession hit), and was heavily based off previous sedan chassis. Hell, even the IRS on the S550 is based off the design of the Lincoln LS
