Hello! My first post here. I recently purchased a 2021 Mustang GT. I'm really liking it. Such a fun car to drive around. It's also my first Mustang, so I'm learning as I go, which is what brought me here to ask what is likely a pretty simple and novice question.

With winter fast approaching, I want to get a set of winter tires. I was planning to go with some 18" X-Ice or Blizzaks. For the rims, before going with some gloss black steelies from Canadian Tire, I was going to search around on places like Kijiji and Facebook Marketplace for a set of OEM 18" takeoffs. Specifically this style pictured here:

From what I've read, there are limits on going below 19" on Mustang GT models, often requiring spacers to make anything smaller fit. However, if I'm not mistaken, that applies to ones with the Performance Package that have the Brembo brakes, correct? While I did not get a window sticker with my Mustang, I don't believe I have the Performance Package as there are no gauges on the dash and my spoiler is the one that sits pretty flush. Also, I do not have Brembo brakes. This is what I have:

So, with all that said, based on what research I have done, I should be able to fit OEM 18" takeoffs should I find a set. They might be cutting it close on the front, but they will fit. However, I come from driving an F-150 and Escape before this, and fitment was a lot more cut and dry on those vehicles, which is why I'm reaching out for confirmation from people who really know their stuff when it comes to the Mustang.

Thank you in advance :)

I don't know about the OEM 18" wheel fitment for certain, but I know plenty of people run after market 18" with the PP Brembos, so I would imagine there's no issues.

Thanks for the info guys! Much appreciated. I'll watch online for some of those takeoffs, but if not, I'll probably just get some 18" steelies.

I have a set in my garage I would love to get rid of. But shipping to Canada from New Mexico would be more than the cost of new ones. These only have about 5k miles on the oe tires.

Yep and too bad, I'd probably snatch them up otherwise. I'm likely just going to get a set of black steelies. Mustangs aren't too common up here, and OEM takeoffs appear to be extremely scarce. I'll keep looking, but the steelies will get me through in the meantime.

I've got a set In MI also just sitting in the garage, but the shipping would also be brutal I would imagine.

Oh for sure. I'd guess upwards of $100 per wheel at least. But it's all good. I have a set of X-Ice on black steelies sitting in the shop, waiting to be put on at the first sign of winter, so I'm all set for now. I'll still be watching places like Marketplace and Kijiji for a set of 18" OEM, but the need is not dire now.

Both those tire models are like driving on gummy bears so mushy and unstable downright dangerous.

If the roads are that Icy better to take Uber or work from home, because the biggest risk is someone hitting you if roads are that bad.

UltraGrip Plus II, PZero Winter, Sottozero, Alpin 4 or 5 will keep your car enjoyable in both shoulder seasons as well as most winter days.

While this thread wasn't meant as a tire review thread, I thought I'd provide a quick update on my winter driving experience so far.

So far, the Michelin X-Ice have performed well. I've been able to test them on out on snow covered roads, black ice, during freezing rain, both city and highway, and I haven't had any issue. I even drove around town on a quiet evening when the streets were slick, to try tackling a little hill that's notorious for vehicles spinning out (there is a stop sign partway up, so not optimal when it's slick). I crawled up without any spinning or fishtailing. I was quite impressed as I remember having to put my F-150 into 4x4 to make this hill.

For context, when the roads aren't good, I do use the Snow/Wet mode and I think it is helpful. If the roads aren't bad, I just drive in the standard mode. I also put two 50 lbs. sandbags in the trunk, horizontally across the rear axle, for added weight.
