2021 Mustang Order Guide (Including Mach 1)

Mach 1 highlights provided by Ford:

  • A base price is $51,720, plus a $1,195 destination and delivery charge
  • Arriving at dealerships in the U.S. and Canada in the spring of 2021
  • Packing a specially calibrated 5.0L V8 engine that produces 480-horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 420 pound-feet of torque at 4,600 rpm
  • An upgraded version of the fast-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission — not available on Bullitt or Shelby Mustangs — and 150% more downforce than a Mustang GT with Ford’s performance pack 1 upgrades.

The order books for the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 are officially open. You can place an order by calling your local Ford dealer as, no, there won't be any online reservation system for this model.

In addition to being able to get in line for a Mach 1, Ford revealed how much it’ll cost. Before options, the Mach 1 will start at $52,915, including the $1,195 destination charge. The one pivotal package is the Handling Package that is exclusively available for models with the Tremec six-speed manual transmission (borrowed from the now discontinued GT350). It adds wider wheels, a high-downforce front splitter, swing spoiler with a Gurney flap, new front wheel lip moldings and rear tire spats from the Shelby GT500. We asked, and Ford isn't revealing the price of the Handling Package quite yet.

You can also spec a Mach 1 with the 10-speed automatic transmission (adds $1,595 on the standard GT), but don’t do that. The Tremec is half the draw here over the Getrag six-speed in a standard GT or the outgoing Bullitt.

This pricing slots the Mach 1 right in between the GT and the dead GT350. It also looks like a tantalizing option for those who might have been considering a GT with the uprated Performance Pack 2. A base 2020 GT with the PP2 costs $45,575, but the Mach 1 tacks on a number of extra goodies beyond what a base GT gives you. It’s the closest you can get to a Shelby GT350 for 2021, but you'll still be making do without its sweet Voodoo V8.

Ford says it’s specifically opening up the order books today because Chuck Yeager made his sound barrier-breaking flight on October 14 in 1947. Chuck went Mach 1. Get it? Thanks for that one, Ford.

So $52k for the base, about what was expected.

"The same Tremec six-speed manual as the Shelby GT350 will be standard for drivers who want to shift their 2021 Mach 1s just like grandad did in his ’69,"

So, that's what manual transmissions are now? Something grandad used, a bit like the telegram?

It's actually not much more expansive than a Premium PP2, but you have the tremec and unique styling. But I guess handling package will reach in the $60k range with options, which is insane for a pimped Coyote Mustang. And we have to see what crazy markups dealer could add.

I hope the handling package isn’t too much. I have a feeling it will. Makes a left over gt350 look better and better

Mach 1 is going to be the most track ready V-8 Mustang right off the factory line
Man, those Shelby owners are gonna be pissed! They've been swept away into the dustbin of history and it's not even 2021 yet. Also, I guess this means the GT500 is chopped liver and not the "most track ready" car in the inventory... Somehow I think there's a stern talking-to coming and a hat-in-hand, sheepish apology.

51.7k mean take 47k Bullitt and add nearly 5 grand? The Bullitt had 401A + Leather + AE. The 'premium' package is 2 grand over 301A, so...

44,300 (PP1+301A, MY20 MSRP)
-1200 (freight)
+ 900 (AE)
- 1500 (MT82)
+ 3200 (M-7000-M8S trans w/pump)
+ 710 ( M-7095-M8S trans cooler kit)
+ 2500 (diff cooler, M-4000-M8S, geezus when did they hike the price from 1600?)
+ 2000 (electronic dash)
+ 1600 (magneride)
==========
52.500

So I guess not too off the mark - 10 grand lower than a GT350 which makes sense. I'm probably under-discounting the MT82 credit by 3-500 and the diff cooler used to be $1600.
Now to go find one for 10% off MSRP + TTL. May have to wait till 2022 and also see if the standard rebates will apply. In time...

2019 GT350/+R production was 3600 units total. I can't see them doing any less and probably more like 5000. What were the Bullitt numbers again?

"Mach 1 is going to be the most track ready V-8 Mustang right off the factory line."

How exactly is it more track ready than a GT350 or GT500?

"There will not be enough to meet demand," said Berj Alexanian, Ford Mustang spokesman.

Then make more.

That’s not what they are saying and it’s been explained before. It’s the most capable 5.0 ever produced. It’s the pinnacle of mustang performance short of the shelbys.
