I fear that emissions regs and the prevailing wind in the rest of the world has moved much faster than many big auto manufacturers expected in the last year.
While it made perfect sense to launch a mild hybrid V8 s650 6 months ago, it no longer makes sense if you can’t sell it in 80% of the export market. The only solution that makes sense on the world stage for a new platform now is fully electric. In North America things are a little different. The gas engine will survive longer there than elsewhere.
I suspect the stop gap s650 may be a cheap make over job on s550 with hybrid assist on some models for home market and Middle East only with the rest of the export market dying off. The s750 will be based on Mach E. My money is on these two running concurrently for a long period in their respective target markets.
