Hi everyone. I had ordered 2020 mustang gt pp1 manual 301A ...didn’t pan out due to production cuts / covid. Dealer got me to try automatic... very good but just not for me. I recently noticed lawsuit re 11-19 manual transmissions and many negative comments online. I understand the Getrag mt82 (which replaced the tremec 3650) was revised to mt82-d4 on 18-19 models. Is it same on 20-21 and is itproblematic? I Decided to wait and plan on placing same order for 2021 and keeping it stock (hoping there will be change on transmission and/or clutch). I’m 53 and this will be my first muscle car (getting too old for crotch rockets)... been a long time coming. Looking for opinions on purchase, thanks. BTW, Complete newb at posting and mustang for those of you who didnt allready notice. Cheers / Peace

Go ahead and buy it. That lawsuit is nothing but an attempt at a money grab. It's not a perfect transmission but it is nowhere near how that makes it sound. I've had both MT82 and MT-82D4 - they're OK. In fact they're better than ones in just about any european car I've driven (and I've driven a lot of them but nothing super luxurious or top of the line).

Same experience here. I had a 2012 with the MT82 and now have a 2019. They both shift great. Maybe a little notchy when cold but I've never had a manual that wasn't.

No issues with my mt82. Just rolled 39k miles yesterday. Shifts great.

Zero issues with my 2015 MT-82 (37k miles), though Ford could have done better than the crappy way they body-mounted the shifter. Nothing wrong with an auto, I would definitely buy one for commuting in a lot of traffic or if I wanted to drag race.

I've had three GT's with the M82. First car had over 40k on it, second over 32. The last one not many, but thats because I traded it for my GT350.

Do people have issues? Sure. Is it a huge issue? Fuck no.

As usual, when on the internet you see the people complaining. Loudly. You don't see the 10s of thousands of others that don't have issues.

That being said the 10 speed automatic is a GREAT transmission that can easily handle a LOT more power.

A change to a top line trans fluid will make an improvement. The trans are both ok once warmed up. :sunglasses:

I personally loved the MT-82 in my 2012 GT PP1 but the one in my 19 Bullitt was Trash - not that it shifted bad but the gear ratios of the MT-82 D4 are total rubbish !!! i sold the car with 900 miles s it made the car feel lazy compared to my 18 GT PP1 10 speed .

Put an MGW short shifter In along with the steeda clutch spring kit and it’ll make it that much better. The MT82 is fine. It does lock out every once in a while but nothing crazy.

I installed a blowfish bracket, BG Syncro ii fluid, Barton aluminum reverse lockout, and Barton Coyote shift knob and I’m happy with the MT82.
I’ll qualify that with adding I seldom do 7,000 RPM shifts.

Mine is in the shop for oil leak that looks like to be Ford overfilling the trans from the start. Overall if it wasn't that I'm super happy with the trans but we will see how it is after I get it back hopefully end of this week.

Thanks all for replies.... waiting for 2021’s... dealer will call me to place order and chances are i will go with manual although i know auto-10 is a better transmission. I have to admit i dont understand why ford doesnt replace the mt82-d4 with a tremec and charge a bit more? Peace,

They did that with Mach1, didn't they ? Charging little more would make an already expensive car even more expensive...

I can add, I have a 2014 with an MGW and it works great. I love the feel of it.
Minor notch into 2nd only wen cold. No lockout. I love it. I'm bummed it gets a bad rap.
