Hi,

1. Does anyone know any car audio specialists based in London who works with Mustangs?
2. Has anyone upgraded their B&O system and could give an advise?
3. If you upgraded, what did you go for, what budget was it and how happy are you with it?

My budget - £500 - £750

Since the budget is small, I am considering to just replace the sub for something the same size but a better quality (as I read that this would make the overall sound much better).

I am not after the big subs with deep base that would make the car vibrate. I would mainly want mode punchy mid-base and ideally an overall better quality sound. But i guess for that I would need a higher budget to replace the actual speakers?

I saw this one, that’s why I got inspired by getting the sub swapped 😁

But I think he did it himself. I don’t have the tools or experience doing these sorts of things, so I would if prefer if a shop did it for me
I did do it myself and it requires virtually no tools. £65 for the speaker at the time and night and day better. I'm sure a shop could do it for you. The thread has details of what speakers fit (easily or otherwise) in the standard enclosure. The good thing is that the enclosure is easy to remove (3 bolts) so you can work on it inside in the warm!

The main problem with the B&O is the awful OEM sub which is boomy and bloated sounding. Tighten up the base with a replacement speaker and everything else sounds better. centre front speaker has lots written about it but I honestly don't find it a problem.

Thanks!

Would you be able to describe in what way it sound better now? Is it just more base or does it just sound better overall?

I phoned a few shops today and after speaking to them I thought I would just leave it.

The shops that I called said one of the following:
  1. A shop that did an audio upgrade for a Mustang said don’t bother coming unless my budget is £1.5K+ as with £500 budget I won’t be able to do anything to feel the difference is sound.
  2. Other shop said that putting a sub from a different brand won’t make a difference as it still would go through OEM amp. So same conclusion as in the first shop.
  3. Other shop said they don’t want to even touch the B&O system as it has different channels or something

So since I don’t have £1.5K to spend on the audio (would rather spend it on exhaust one day 😊), I thought the best thing would be to just leave it.

But if you are saying that there is a budget way to make a difference and it’s worth it, then I may reconsider 😊

The standard sub is really boomy and flabby - the poorly defined bass just overwhelms everything else in the car no matter how much you tune it down. The Pioneer sub I fitted has about the same level of bass, but is tightly controlled. So no more bass than before but proper musical bass. Bass from the OEM sub is all around 90Hz whereas bass should be musical - there are different bass notes in music not just boom boom boom.

If you look in the thread I created you will see the quality of the OEM sub in the picture - it is literally a £15 paper sub. The only complicated bit is getting the old trim ring off in one piece where you have to be careful and bold all at the same time ! It is so cheap it has to be worth a go - be brave!

save up, buy your exhaust and never listen to the music again. You're gonna spend the money on the exhaust, might as well start saving with the 500quid audio fund! Just my 2p

Could be too far for you to travel but checkout Cambridge Car Audio, their demo vehicle is Mustang. There’s plenty of photos of it IG.
