I am going with 305s on all fours for an upcoming track day in the homestead. I can only currently get Goodyear Eagle Supercar 3 locally. Which are only available in 305, not 315.

I had a full set of Sport Cup 2s on wheels ready to put on the car. I had Big O Tires in Missouri mount and balance them. I brought them virgin wheels and tires being VERY specific which were front and back wheels. I trailered the car to Florida with the street tires on the car and the track tires on the rack. I went to mount the 305 on the front and the wheel would not seat against the hub. I then realized it was hitting the caliper! Scratched the shit out of it! FRIGGING PERFECT!!! Then I realized, sure enough, they frigging mis-mounted the damn tires. I now had 4 days before my track day. I took them to the local tire shop to have them changed. They called me 4 hours later to tell me the bead was broken on one of the rear tires!!! Brand frigging new sport cup 2, RUINED!

I have 2 2020 Gt500s so i figure i can get another 315 from tire-rack on order and use those tires (sport cup 2s) on the other car for the next track day. In the meantime, ill put 4 GY F1 SC3 all around this car. That should be a good setup for track, should it not?

Another question. My front tires are SEVERELY wearing on the outer edge, and hardly at all on the inner edge. Is there a recommended front-end adjustment i can do without alignment tools? If not, what would I tell an alignment shop to correct this issue while on the track?

305 SC3 will be a great choice for road course use.

Yeah, if you have stock camber, you should probably take a hard look at camber plates and 2.5 to 3 degrees or more front camber (and ~1.8-2deg rear). You need to have over 3 degrees of front camber to really stop/even out the shoulder wear, but it can be livable with a bit less.

Don’t the 500 come with camber plates from the factory ?
If so ask the shop to adjust the camber to -3

AWESOME info, and thank you! Can anyone confirm if the 2020 GT500 has adjustable camber plates?

Doing som more research it would appear that only the handling package came with the plates and they were no installed but rather in the trunk
Can you take a close up picture of the top of the shock in the engine compartment?
Will be easy to see if you have the plates or not

I definitely got the handling package on both cars, but no adjustable camber plates, just checked. I am looking at plates online, but the GT500 has VERY small holes for the top of the strut, so i think some of the adjustable plates wouldn't work, IE pedders.

Its true, you can only get so much camber with the stock strut tower holes. (<3 degrees IIRC?).

However if you cut wider holes (Vorshlag sells a jig, you supply the hole saw), you can get 3+ degrees.

Maxing out the stock holes will help those tire shoulders survive longer, and you'll be less likely to have a tire shoulder chunk, but you'll still be wanting for more.

FYI Goodyear SC3 tires SUCK compared to Sport Cup 2! Each and every driver who ran the GT500 with the Goodyears agree! We had one car with factory stagger Sport Cup 2, and one with 305 square Goodyear SC3. Everyone said the Goodyears had much less grip. Homestead/Miami should eat up those Goodyears by the next track day this month, i hope!

Vorshlag camber plates just came in! Having the local shop install them Tuesday.

That's not a fair comparison. Of course Cup 2's have more grip; no one is expecting the opposite.
For a 200tw tire, the supercar 3 is amazing. Comparing apples to apples, the supercar 3R is far superior to the Cup 2. Cheaper, faster, lasts about the same.
I honestly don't know a single person in the competitive scene who uses Cup 2's. For the exact same price, you could get Hoosiers.
200tw plus = supercar 3
200tw = A052
100tw and under = 3R
Slick = A7

What do you think/how will you classify the nt01?

Similar lap times to the supercar 3. For being a 100tw tire, the NT01 isn't that fast. It's an old tire = old design.
Not saying the NT01 is a bad tire, just has a different purpose. They are very consistent lap after lap and last a long time. Great for getting practice.

If you want to compete though, NT01 is not the choice

Well crap! I didn’t know there was a 3R. I got what was available local and fast as my tire change place destroyed the bead on one of my sport cup 2s and I was In a pinch. I assumed there was only one “super car 3” tire…. Thanks for the info. The sport cups grip like hell, I can’t imagine something stickier. I’ll try the 3R next track tire change!

Just be sure to give the 3R a couple warm up laps. They have absolutely zero grip when cold.
