Late in 2018 Ford Racing promoted the following photo...

gt500_1.jpg

I came upon what I believe to be the photo that was cropped to create the shot up above. Somebody at Ford darkened the image such that you could really only see the supercharger case. I ran it through photoshop and removed the shadowing and added light. I found two things which I note on the photo. A factory gas strut/shock to support the hood means one less mod we'll have to do. Strut tower brace looks sharp.

Is that the coolant tank relocated or simply an extra tank for the intercooler as is done by most OEM's? Currently working on a C63 with a separate expansion tank for the intercoolers.

That is most likely coolant tank for intercooler, but wow the bay looks very nice thanks for sharing.

Exactly, tank for the IC which Ford has historically placed adjacent to the radiator on previous supercharged GT500's.

Cue the aftermarket and custom, tig welded aluminum tank assemblies to come.

Very nice. That is a put together engine bay. One would be proud to pop the hood. I see a lot of aftermarket work there. Caps, the tank for the IC...It also seems this being a 5.2, parts that worked for that vehicle may work here. The FRP oil catch cans come to mind.

Nice find! That strut tower brace is impressive.

I'm wondering the same thing...is that an OEM supplied catch can?

Looking at that pic, it sure looks like it. Two lines coming from it...vertical catch perhaps ?

It isn't a catch can but rather a vacuum operated bypass valve actuator. Previous generation GT500 engines had them except they were mounted at the rear of the supercharger near the firewall.

To be clear, I'm referring to what you see at the front corner (left side as viewed) of the blower case, the bypass actuator resides right there.

On this car it is. Especially considering it wasn't part of the program initially...

A hood that an oem would utilize only a single shock on...would need to be pretty lightweight.... Ahem.....

What do you think it’s made of? Carbon fiber or aluminum?
