In this drag racing video, we took a 2020 BMW M8 Competition and put it up against our very own 2020 Ford Shelby GT500 in a battle of high-performance sport coupes. Which car had the better 0-60 time? The 600-hp M8 or the 760-hp Shelby GT500? How much of an advantage does all-wheel drive give the BMW? Is the extra $100,000 worth the difference in speed? Alistair Weaver and Carlos Lago answer these questions, as well as cover price and specs in this high-powered, high-performance sport coupe drag race.

And these people stay wanting bigger, heavier engines over the front two wheels in these cars. I'm happy these old guys in these forums aren't Ford engineers. We'd have a 7.3L RWD supercharged GT500 that did 0-60 in 5 seconds lol.

Why is it that the Ford performance engineers couldn’t come up with an AWD system. Hell they had 5 years of planning to get this traction problem solved. Jaguar did it in the 16 F Type SVR. That car has only 575 HP. Without AWD it’s a car without traction. It’s no secret and not hard to find a vendor with a proven system. Instead they waste money on carbon wheels and a big ass wing. Sorry for the rant but this is such a obvious solution and not a lot of weight either.

Point taken but here's one in return...that "age thing" will sneak up on ya.

Funny, seems like I saw a video awhile back with a 2020 GT500 lined up against a M8 competition and the results were different than what is being presented here.

Maybe a prepped drag strip vs just plane old hard concrete?

If you are referring to the GT500 then I think that would cause a massive uproar if they did that. Look at what happened to the Corvette with them going mid engine. I think cost is main reason why they haven't yet.

Maybe with the S650 Mustang being on the CD6 platform they can do it.

Wife’s Explorer ST has all wheel drive and from a dig it will hold its own against my sons 2020 GT mustang till it gets a foot hold. Explorer ST is a Ford Performance SUV that is under 60k. No reason Ford could not have put a system like this in the GT500. I do not think anyone would have a problem with the blistering acceleration that would’ve went with it. If the s650 shares a platform with the explorer and gets some crazy new V8 I could only imagine how well it would accelerate with all wheel drive, I say bring it. That being said I doubt I’ll run into many cars in my town that would pull away from the GT500.

This is what happens when Corvette goes mid engine. They win the championship in IMSA. GTLM class ...etc etc
They sell out all C8’s for 2020 and 2021. They bring in a new fan base .etc etc
