Not seeing anything about where the break in oil change is 500 mi. I *heard* 1000, but after looking at the supplement I can't even find that.

GT500 Supplimental page 35:

BREAKING-IN
Your vehicle requires a break-in period.
Drive your new vehicle at least 100 mi
(160 km) before performing extended wide
open throttle maneuvers and at least
1,000 mi (1,600 km) before operating your
vehicle at high speeds or track conditions.
Note: Vary your speed frequently in order
to give the moving parts a chance to break
in.

I play it safe and do nothing I'll regret until after the 1,000 mark. Thats always been etched as the break in period all my life and I'm sticking to it :)

*EDIT* 2:30PM

There is nothing in the manual for break-in oil change, I wouldn't listen to the dealer either, I presume there is no official break-in period by ford. Hence why you see the number 500 and 1000. I have always from the time I was kid had it known dont go crazy for the first 1000 so the engine and the valves make there mark before WOT and the oil change is to get any metal fragments out of the engine.

My old brain can not remember where I read about doing an engine break-in oil change after 500 miles. Having been raised by a career mechanic, and having built many engines, I always do a new engine break-in oil change at 500 miles, or as close to as possible.

This is my practice, not saying it has to be anyone else's.

RockAuto has been great. Best price I could find and 2 day deliver (on Saturday to boot).

Just did mine today at the Dealer and had 780 miles on her and I have been running her harder than any car I have ever owned before hitting the 500 mark and 1000 mile mark. She is just totally bad ass awesome as I drive her more and more.

Jaime: Clearly we share a few human character traits but we also share the same thinking on engine break-ins and oil changes.

I'm SURE the manufacturers have become MUCH better than when I was a hot rodder as a kid and the amount of shed metal is very, very small on a brand new engine. But WTF, it's just a case of oil and a filter for some nearly priceless piece of mind?

It's a no brainer for me.

Agreed, money well spent. That and even an oil change on this car is therapeutic to me.

The BL-7000EXT, Earl. I wanted the longer version so I could use it on the wife's CT6. Unfortunately, while it works just fine on "Sarah," it's too long for the "compact" Steeda jacking rails I put on her.

I will have to inquire about the longer versions but the QJ makes it so easy to just use the provided rubber blocks aligned with the factory jacking points that rails aren't really needed.

You really don't "need" jacking rails if you are not using a floor jack, and jack stands. Of corse you can use them, but you do not need them if using a lift.

Thanks, Jaime. Early on, George K. suggested I get rails so I did. No big deal and who knows, it might help on the road sometime.

Speaking of which..

As I did with my first GT-500, I plan to buy a decent 20" wheel and tire as a spare. Thankfully, the well in the chassis is there even though we didn't pay enough to get a real spare tire. <shaking head>

I did this because on the SECOND day of ownership, I picked up a nail in what I thought was a clean parking lot and I came out to a flat tire. Those of you who have trailers and winches would have been fine but not me. After unsuccessfully searching for a wrecker outfit that could handle the low ground clearance of the car, I went to Autozone and got a patch kit. Then drove back home to get a pump and eventually, I got another tire from the dealership and had it mounted. No problems since but I learned so I also want a real spare in Sarah and I am going to get another of the DC pumps I got the first time around. Man, what a difference and screw that aerosol flat fixer BS.
