Minor update today. No new progress on the car but my Explorer ST turned into 2020 F150.

I now have a real tow vehicle and much more practical tool for daily driving.

This is a nice truck! Iconic Silver, Platinum trim with the 3.5 EcoBoost and almost 13,000 lbs of towing capacity.

Full vlog entry done on my wrap:

100% Custom PPF
Cquartz Finest Ceramic Coating
Ceramic Window Tint
And re-stripe with GT500 lettering and fully wrapped stripes.

Car came out great. We have been dealing with smoke out here for weeks so the lighting isn’t the best but it sparkles.

Fast Mod Wednesday - 30 Second Install!

Followed @Jmeo example and ordered these belt pads off of Ebay. I had never felt the need to wear one as a belt had never bothered me as I am 6' 1" but I found the belts in the 500 a little bothersome.

Plus they look good!

Not quite a mod, but something new none the less, in preparation for a mod.

A little while ago, I was able to get a QuickJack BL-7000SLX from Costco during the last promotion and tonight was able to put it to use for the first time.

Initial impressions of the QuickJack, it's awesome.

Glad I got the extended length of the 7000 series. It's going to work well with all of our vehicles, but primarily the GT500 and an '04 C5 Z06 project car.

Assembly was very straight forward, everything appears to be high quality.

It fired right up and I had no issues with leaks, uneven lifts, or any other issues.

The first use tonight, was to pull the factory wheels off so the tires can be transferred to my new set of Signature Wheels that have been just sitting and waiting for the car to arrive.

The short lifting blocks along with these Potauto magnetic pinch weld jacking pucks made for an easy and secure lift.

https://www.amazon.com/Potauto-Universal-Aluminum-Grooved-Magnetic/dp/B082HRPDTF?th=1

The magnets are great as you can stick them to the car where they need to go, and then raise the jack to meet the jacking puck.

These were so easy to use, it makes me wonder if I want to go through with adding jacking rails. I know you can center lift with a jacking rail, but these jacking pucks did make things very easy.

Two huge thumbs up for the QuickJack and the jacking pucks.

Next step, get those new lightweight Signature Wheels and HanSolo's nuts on there.
Will the BL-7000 EXT Carlift work and fit the 2020 Shelby GT 500?

Good question, I believe that it would, but I couldn't say for certain.

QuickJack publishes the specs on their site for how much clearance you need between the tires.

The 7000 Is plenty big, and you can buy extensions for it, and have ALMOST the length of the EXT if you need something for a larger vehicle. That was my plan if the need arose for something longer.

Install of 15-17 Rear Seat Belt Receivers

Going to have the first track day at Laguna Seca this weekend and wanted to bring it out as close to stock as possible so I can observe the results of planned changes. However I still want a harness! I had grown used to a 6 point harness from my previous car but that went pretty hardcore track car. Roll bar, rear seat delete, etc....

Want to keep the rear seats in this car for the kids and preserve its excellent street manners.

So without installing a harness bar, or roll bar, the next best thing is the Schroth Quickfit Pro. It gives you a 4 point harness that attaches to factory points and is easily removed. Perfect!

However! They still haven’t adapted it to to account for the change Ford made to the rear seat receivers in 2018 and it only works with a 15-17 receiver.

So the solution is going to be, install the 15-17 receiver in the car with the factory one and just pull the receiver up through the seat that I happen to need.
After installation it’s a 2 minute swap.

Fairly inexpensive but definitely a different buckle connection.

To prepare them you’ll need to remove the bolt/washer/retaining washer that come with them.

After doing so they will look like this and be ready to install.

Remove the factory receivers.

super easy to access under the rear seat.

Pro tip you don’t even have to remove the cushion, leave one front seat fully back and it will hold up the rear seat in an open position.

Once removed, remove the bolt/washer/retaining washer from the factory buckle, put both old buckle and new buckle together and reassemble.

The receivers come with a nice printed supplement from the FSM that showsa diagram and torque specs. 40nm or so is what’s required here.

All done!

Choose if you want the connection for the factory belt or harness and pull the appropriate one through.

For this day I won’t have passengers so I pulled through the receiver for the QuickFit on the drivers side and left the factory receiver up on the passenger side.

Next up, installing the harnesses.

Interrupting the harness installation post with a trip to Trent Musser where the car got dropped off for suspension goodies and track alignment.

After a while of collecting parts and waiting for back orders it’s already to go in just before day after Thanksgiving track day at Laguna Seca.

Are these parts necessarily better than some of the stock 2020 GT500 parts?

If you are doing road course events, I am, then yes. If not a lot of this may not be necessary, none of it is really necessary, but many of us wouldn’t be here if we just want to leave it alone.

CFTP springs and bars, give me more spring rate, lower ride height, and tighten up some float in the base suspension.

all the bushings remove deflection in the stock arms that help keep camber adjustments dialed in on track.

adjustable toe links and rear camber arms are not “necessary” but it makes it a hell of a lot easier for your alignment shop to be precise and to lock down a rear alignment.

front camber plates are a requirement if you want to track, the CFTP comes with them. The base does not. I took it to the track on stock alignment and it eats tires. This platform needs camber!

The centering sleeves and cradle lockout kit helps with alignment, deflection, and wheel hop.

the rear vertical links, probably the most unnecessary of the bunch, but will help me run drag wheels if I want to go drag racing.

the caliperfexion studs making swapping barker pads a breeze and eliminates a consumable one time use bolt.

the end links are beefier than the factory ones with added strength. I have seen the factory links get bent.

brake cooling Is a good idea on a 4,200lb car being pushed on track.

The most unnecessary part is probably the steeda G trac brace, but I had a store credit so I thought I would give it a shot.

The goal was to eliminate deflection in the factory suspension, tighten up the ride, limit added NVH, make a custom alignment much easier, and make the car more predictable. It accomplished all that without making the ride or noise any worse than a CFTP car and greatly improved my handling.

Wzup man, I was in the neighborhood and stopped by to talk to Trent and saw your car. Very nice color and good call on tightening up the suspension.

Have fun and see you at the track sometime!

Your car is absolutely incredible, dude. I think those are the coolest wheels I've ever seen.

Would you mind sharing what you paid for the full detail/wrap/ceramic/etc.?

Thank You! Signature wheel has it dialed in.

I am in the bay area in Northern California, I went full paint correction, 100% full custom coverage in PPF, a high end ceramic coating, Interior protection, and glass protection. Long warranty and satisfaction guarantee.

Everything is expensive here. That said, all in was about $11K ... after tax. The shop that did mine has a sterling reputation and I got a recommendation from a friend in the business (in Ohio) to them and another place and got quotes from both. The high quote I saw was north of $13K.

I am sure you can find it for less, but at least here in California, especially the silly part of the state here in the Bay Area, it would be $8K-$10K at a high end shop.

Thanks!

Hope to do so! I was all set to go to the track on Friday this week (Black Friday) but the brake pedal recall put a damper in my plans. I know the chances of something happening are slim, but better to be safe than sorry.
