First off I know this is a mustang forum so I know I might get biased answers but I'll ask anyways.

Like the title says I'm torn between these 2 cars.

Both the cars are M6. The ZL1 has 21k miles. The GT has 8k. If I buy the GT it'll be getting a procharger centri blower put on (I already bought the kitšŸ¤£šŸ˜³)

Both cars are priced within 2k of each other.

I don't want to spend 6th gen ZL1 money right now otherwise it would be an easy choice

So. What would you do and why?

Neither car would be a daily. Just a fun weekend/date night car. No track duty. Just back road pulls and freeway shenanigans

I've had a 2010 SS before and I currently have a C6 Corvette.

Freeway shenanigans? I'd go with the engine that breathes at 7500rpm...

In my opinion factory boost is better than aftermarket boost in this case. So I would rather have the ZL1. But I can totally understand that modding the GT might be more fun.

I can promise you the ZL1 will run with less problems compared to a aftermarket boosted 5.0L.

I had a 2013 ZL1 convertible. I sold it because the back seat was useless and I really needed one for my grandkids. The Mustang actually has the best back seat of any convertible I looked at. Anyway, back to the ZL1... it was a blast! Incredible torque, very addicting! Gas mileage kind of sucks, though... too much playing. My GT averages about 8 mpg more.

Beyond the obvious, there isn't a lot to chose from. I think the ZL1 feels a bit bigger and heavier, but it wasn't.

A Coyote/centri combo is going to be alot stronger on the highway than an big ol' LSA with a roots blower.

The ZL1 will be more fun around town with the better gearing and low end power, but on the highway there's no comparison between the two.

Thanks for the feedback

The Z28 is almost (is in some cases) 6th gen ZL1 money.

I'm going to test drive a ZL1 next week

This one is tough. The ZL1 will definitely be more reliable as it comes boosted from factory. With a boosted 5.0 you will constantly be having to work out some issues to have the car running healthy. On the other hand ZL1s are really heavy and Iā€™ve had friends that smoke 5th gen ZL1s all day with the A10 bolt on 5.0.
In the end I would choose the mustang. The journey of building the car if something special and you will enjoy it. The car is also newer and will not look outdated anytime soon

Based on your use case I would buy the ZL1. Resale will be a lot better with a car that is kept stock. You will be a lot less likely to break something with a car that is stock.

I do like Mustangs better, but between your options I say ZL1. Of course you could always go with a GT500 as well. :like:

I wouldn't buy an older Z/28 unless you love super stiff suspension, hate AC, don't like having a stereo in your car, etc. I would definitely enjoy a Z/28, but I'm a little crazy that way.

If you want to hit the track frequently, get the ZL1. It is the faster track car.

If it's a grocer getter and road trip car only, get the Mustang.

I did the deed yesterday. The Mustang was nice but I plan on keeping this car a long time and I wanted something more unique.

Supercharger kit for sale now for the mustang.

Congrats, Chevy man. It really is the better choice.

Certainly a great choice. It's a shame someone ruined that front bumper with a stupid license plate though....

I suspect you'll find you prefer the ZL1 pretty much always to the C6. Maybe one day you'll swap that for a Mustang! Haha.

As a mustang fan first and foremost and Camaro hater, i always hated on the Camaros. BUT I've come around and would rather have a ZL1. Sure its heavier, but imo these factory supercharged cars will be worth a lot in the future, even with higher miles. ESPECIALLY in Cali. So yea, between an NA Mustang (not GT350) vs a ZL1 and you're keeping the car awhile? ZL1.

Seeing as how you already got it, good buy.

I was considering a 13-14 GT500 but they are in the 50s right now and I already had an s197, '13 5.0. Hated the solid axle ride. But would consider GT5 if economy continues to tank and prices get under 40k. Also if ZL1 gets under $40k for same reason it would be a tough decision. It all comes down to looks, but right now for me the front of the 13-15 ZL1 looks more aggressive. But im not turning down a decently priced trinity GT500.
